15 iconic actors who played Superman through the years


Each generation obtains its own superman – or more greatmenin some cases.

One of our most durable pop culture figures, super powerful well-being has inspired moviegoers, viewers and comics readers since his invention in 1938. After all, an extraterrestrial from the Krypton planet coming to help save our world faced with conflicts is never really out of style.

More than a dozen actors have engraved their names in history by living in the role of Superman through various cinematographic and televised adaptations. The last one is David Corenswet, whom the criticisms and the public praised for his warm and sincere interpretation of the main character in 2025 Superman.

In front, we look at 15 of the most notable actors to represent Superman since 1940.

Bud Collyer (1940–1949; 1966–1969)

Bud Collyer was the voice of Superman for years, lending his voice to the character in the radio programs of the 1940s as Superman’s adventures,, The magnetic telescopeAnd Ballers. He returned to this role in the 1960s, expressing Superman Superman’s new adventures,, The time of the Superman / Aquaman adventure,, AquamanAnd Batman / Superman time.

Kirk Alyn (1948-1950)

Kirk Alyn made his debut as a superhero in 1948, playing Clark Kent / Superman at Columbia Pictures’ Superman. He still put on the cape for the series in 15 parts of the 1950s Atom Man against Superman.

George Reeves (1951–1958)

George Reeves began playing Superman in 1951 with the beginnings of Superman and The Mole-Men. He returned to the hero shortly after, appearing as Superman on the six seasons series Superman’s adventuresFor a place invited on I love Lucyand in the short film Timbre day for Superman.

Danny Dark (1973–1986)

Danny Dark spent much of his career to express Superman. Christopher Reeve (1978–1987)

Perhaps the most famous superman, Christopher Reeve appeared for the first time as Clark Kent and his alter ego in the 1978 Superman. He continued to play in Superman II (1980), Superman III (1983), and Superman IV: the quest for peace (1987).

John Haymes Newton (1988-1989; 2011-2012)

John Haymes Newton made his screen debut as a title character in the television show of the late 80s Superboy. He also expressed Superman in two animated fans films, Superman Classic (2011) and Bizarre classic (2012).

Gerard Christopher (1989-1992)

Gerard Christopher took over Newton’s reins, playing Clark Kent / Superboy on Superboy From 1989 to 1992.

Dean Cain (1993–1997)

Dean Cain played Superman in the 90s, spending four years Laws & Clark: the new adventures of Superman Like the superhero.

TIM DALY (1996-2012)

Tim Daly has had a prolific career expressing the steel man, including in TV movies Superman: Krypton’s last son (1996) and The Batman Superman Movie: World’s Finest (1997), on Superman: the animated series From 1996 to 2000, in video games Superman (1999) and Superman: shadow of apokolips (2002), and in direct-video films Superman: Brainiac attacks (2006), Superman / Batman: Public enemies (2009), Superman / Batman: Apocalypse (2010), and Justice League: Doom (2012).

George Newbern (2001-Print)

George Newbern expressed Superman for five years in the early 2000s Justice League series, winning additional credits on Justice League Unlimited And Batman A few years later. He continues to express the man of steel in videos and superman games, including 2022 Multi -waxing.

Tom Welling (2001-2011; 2019)

Superman with a small screen, Tom Welling played the famous character for 10 years. He appeared as Clark Kent and Superman on SmallvilleReturning in 2019 in an episode of Batwoman For the crossroads Arrowverse “Crisis on Infinite Earths”.

Brandon Routh (2006; 2019)

Brandon Routh became Superman for 2006 Superman returns. He also lent his voice to the film’s video game and further put on the Red Cape both in 2019 for “Crisis on Infinite Earths” via an episode of The flash.

Tyler Hoechlin (2016-2024)

Tyler Hoechlin joined the CW Arrowverse in 2016 as SupergirlThe steel man. David Corenswet (2025 – Present)

David Corenswet took over for Cavill as a new Superman of the multiplex in 2025 Superman. After the financial and creative success of the film, Corenswet should resume his role in a potential suite, the actor revealed via Vanity in June.
