Emma Raducanu to miss Berlin Open to ensure fitness as she prepares for Wimbledon championships | Tennis News
Emma Raducanu will miss the Berlin Tennis Open next week as she continues to manage a back problem.
The 22 -year -old woman has struggled with the problem since her participation in Strasbourg last month before the French Open and took a medical time outside the field during her defeat in the quarter -finals against Qinwen Zheng at the Queen’s Club on Friday.
Speaking later, Raducanu said: “This has persisted for a few weeks, and I have already had back problems. I think it’s just a vulnerability. I know that I have to take care of it.
“I am not too concerned about the fact that it is something serious, but I know it is something that is very boring and needs appropriate and meticulous management.”
Raducanu had chosen to play in the German capital rather than Nottingham after having offered a joker in the WTA 500 event, which should include nine of the 10 best in the world.
But the former champion of the United States Open will rather prioritize rest and recovery to make sure that she is fully able to Wimbledon.
Raducanu’s decision means that she will fail to be ripped off for her big slam at home, but it is understood that she is confident to play in the opening of Lexus Eastbourne the week before Wimbledon.
Last year, Raducanu won the first victory of his career over a top 10 player by beating Jessica Pegula on the southern coast before going the fourth round to the All England Club.
