Carlota Ciganda claims first LPGA Tour title since 2016 at Meijer LPGA Classic after dramatic final round | Golf News

Carlota Ciganda ended his nine years of waiting for his third title of LPGA tour with a dramatic victory at the Meijer LPGA Classic, while Lexi Thompson missed to stop his own drought.

Ciganda began the day as part of a six -time equality before the last day at the Blythefield Country Club, where she recovered from the start of Bogey in Birdie three of her last holes and exceeded a congestioned ranking.

The Spaniard followed a birdie in the 15th par-three by pulling his approach to one foot in the 17th per four, before relaxing at four feet per-cinq to close a 67 under five and an impressive victory.

Ciganda finished the week for the partner for the part of 16 sous and the partner to play Hye-Jin Choi, with the victory of her first on the LPGA tour from the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in November 2016.

“It’s incredible obviously after all these years,” said Ciganda. “I knew I could do it, but obviously once the years continue and you start to age, you are starting to doubt yourself.

“I think this year, I have an excellent team around me. New shopping carts that does an incredible job, and I’m just very happy with my whole team. I just think we can do it and it was a great year, but obviously, winning is an incredible feeling.”

Choi finished with a 68 having canceled a penultimate Bogey Holes with a Birdie at the last, while Somi Lee was another blow in the third in front of Thompson, Celine Boutier and Nanna Koerstz Madsen.

Thompson, who won the last of 11 LPGA tour titles at this event in 2019 and is now playing a part -time LPGA tour calendar, also started the last day for the head before settling down along the closing section.

The 30 -year -old missed an eight -foot putt for the 16th and made Bogey closer to the next one, leaving Thompson – who finished finalist at last year’s event – in a part of the fourth.
