Man Utd latest news: Ruben Amorim like Pep Guardiola, claims Omar Berrada as he reaffirms 2028 title target | Football News
Manchester United Director General Omar Berrada remains confident that the club can mark its 150th anniversary in 2028 by winning the titles of the male and female league and thinks that there are similarities between head coach Ruben Amorim and the boss of Man City Pep Guardiola.
Berrada, who spoke for the first time of the staff of his vision “Project 150” in September of last year, knows that this represents an important challenge with United having undergone a worst high flight season since relegation in 1973-74, while Chelsea continues to dominate the female super League.
However, he thought he was marking an important step in the history of the club since his creation by Newton Heath in 1878 with a double success title is realistic.
In an interview with the United We Stand Fanzine will be published on Wednesday, Berrada said: “He establishes a series of objectives within a period so that we can focus our efforts and our energy on this objective.
“Can the team win the title of Premier League by 2028? Of course.
“We have just finished 15th and that seems an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?”
While United finished third in the WSL, 16 points behind the Chelsea champions which also beat them in the FA Cup final, the men did not succeed in three places above the relegation area of the Premier League and lost the Europa League final against Tottenham.
“ We have two or three summer windows to build a winning team from PL ‘
However, Berrada has doubled his calendar.
He said: “I firmly believe we can do it.
“We have two or three summer windows to build a team to start competing to win the Premier League.
“No one says that we don’t want to win it until then. We are a target with a specific time to go and aim.”
Berrada also reaffirmed the commitment of the UTD man to women’s football.
“We were a little distracted with all the problems of the first male team, but we are committed to succeeding in the women’s team,” said Berrad.
“You heard [minority owner] Jim [Ratcliffe] Say “If you wear the United Hit, you have to win”. This is exactly what I feel. A club of our scale is responsible for developing football in general and contributing to women’s football. “”
Berrad on Amorim: “It was difficult during the first year of Pep”
Amorim had a difficult start to life in Old Trafford since his arrival from Sporting in November.
And Berrad, who joined United after leaving his role as director of football operations at City Football Group, thinks that there are similarities between Amorim and Man City Boss Guardiola, who had his own difficulties during his first season in Etihad.
“Very well,” said Berrada when asked if she had seen similarities between Amorim and Guardiola.
“It was difficult during the first year of PEP.”
He added: “He won nothing and it was suspected if he could implement his vision of football in the Premier League. People said he was arrogant and would not change his style of play. But he stuck to his principles and taking into account what he had won, he had a huge credit to the bank.
“It was authorized to be lower than the first year compared to its standards. The club supported it that summer, the team began to win and created this winning cycle which lasted until this season.”
‘We are on the right path’
Berrada thinks that the difficulties with which Amorim had to manage will be beneficial to the head coach and the club next season.
“It won’t be easy,” he said. “There will be difficult times to come.
“Nothing is going to be resolved with a summer window, but we are on the right track.
“We have put the worst part of this transformation phase behind us and now we are going to start building. I am very convinced that we will come back to the top.”
