Royal Ascot: American Affair takes King Charles III Stakes for Scottish trainer Jim Goldie; Gstaad wins Coventry Stakes | Racing News
Scottish Challenger American Affair finished the best to win the King Charles III issues to Royal Ascot for Jim Goldie and Paul Mulrennan.
Succeeding in valuable handicaps at Musselburgh and York, the five-year-old child was perhaps unhappy not to finish closer than him in fifth place in Stakes Temples in Haydock and was a chance of 11/1 for this first group.
Installed in the midfield while the regional and night raid opened a path, American Affair was produced with its challenge inside the last two stadiums and found a lot of pressure to take the upper hand with a prolonged duel with a gel at dawn by a neck.
Goldie, based in Lanarkshire, said: “I have been trained in the family for two generations, so it’s very soft.
“He becomes faster, we made seven stadiums in Wetherby in his young daughter, we learned to pass him during the right trip, we brought him back to five years and he improves better and better.
“I was quite confident that he could do it today, he had the talent, we were wrong in Haydock. I knew he was probably one of the fastest horses of the race, but that’s how you control this. We went down a day earlier and made him relax and everything was put in place. It means a lot.
“You are never sure, but I could see that he was traveling well. He turns faster and faster, we trained his family and they were the same – they are just faster.
“We brought it here yesterday to install it and everything worked well. It’s just great.
“Paul really believed in this horse and we knew that he had it in him. It’s magic, it’s a very good horse.
“We live the dream, so to speak. Winning here is probably a high career point. Well, it’s not” probably “, isn’t it? It’s definitely a strong career moment.”
Mulrennan added: “I said that there, at this stage of my career, I probably had more years behind me than in front of me, it’s very special.
“It’s quite difficult to get journeys here, it’s nice to come here and take a look, winning a group here is very special and Jim has been very good with me in recent years.
“He is a master coach to refine with these horses and he can really, with the ammunition he has, he can make the most of them on the day of the big day.”
Gstaad Rockets in Coventry Glory
GSTAAD blowed the Coventry Stakes field to give Aidan O’Brien an 11th victory in the Royal ASCOT function.
Sent the favorite 7/2 and drawn on the nearby side, his group seemed to be late for a large part of the path before Ryan Moore sends it to the center of the track with two stadiums to run.
He never really looked at doubt from there and he returned to the three length house away from 80/1 outsider or not on the other side, with Coppull third at 66/1.
