WWE returns to Saudi Arabia on June 28 with Night of Champions. This year marks the second evening of the Champions which took place as a Saudi event.
There is already a major match manager for the event, John Cena defending the undisputed WWE championship against CM Punk. Cena said he intended to retire as a “last real champion” of WWE, a plan which, according to him, “will ruin the struggle”. Punk, in a reversal of roles of their 2011 rivalry, tries to prevent Cena from leaving WWE with the title.
The final of the tournament for King and Queen of the Ring will also take place the night of the Champions. These tournaments started with the June 9 episode of RAW. The winners of the tournament will face the world champions of their respective brands in Summerslam.
Historically, each championship is defended the night of the champions, but WWE has somewhat moved from this approach in recent years. With smaller live event cards and two spots supported by the King and Queen of the Ring matches, it is unlikely that each WWE title will be at stake during the event.
Let’s take a look at what we know, as well as what we expect to happen, for WWE Night of Champions.
2025 Night of Champions WWE matches
Undisputed WWE championship – John Cena (C) against cm punk: While with AEW, Punk made fun of WWE wrestlers for having taken money to fight in Saudi Arabia. Now Punk goes to Saudi as a headliner against one of his most emblematic WWE rivals. Punk said he was not fighting “for the company” to win the title of Cena, but rather for the fans, who do not want to see Cena continue his assertion that he will retire as champion and “Ruin Wrestling”. Their match in 2011 in 2011 is emblematic in the history of WWE, but with 14 more miles on their bodies, it will be interesting to see what they are able to deliver.
King of the Ring Finals – Randy Orton against Cody Rhodes or Jey USO: Orton obtained a place in the final of the tournament by winning a four fatal lanes in the first round and overcoming Sami Zayn in the semi-finals. Orton will face the winner of the RAW semi-finals match, either Rhodes or USO.
Finals Queen of the Ring – Asuka vs Jade Cargill or Roxanne Perez: As with men, the women’s tournament is underway. Asuka beat Alexa Bliss in the semi-finals, preparing the field for a confrontation against Cargill or Perez.
American championship – Jacob Fatu (C) against Solo Sikoa: Wounded feelings degenerated to violence after Sikoa failed to repair things with his cousin. Fatu suggested that Sikoa became jealous after Fatu won the American title. Fatu went directly to Smackdown Management after their dust and obtained a match on the evening of the Champions.
2025 WWE Night of Champions Predictions
Women’s Intercontinental Championship – Becky Lynch (C) against Bayley: Lynch finally beat Lyra Valkyria to capture the belt. His celebration on RAW was short -lived because Bayley attacked him from behind. Lynch had attacked Bayley before Wrestlemania, dropping Bayley from the card and allowing Lynch to team up with Valkyria to win the titles of female tag. Bayley came to take revenge, and although WWE can wait for the evolution for the match, they will probably want another female match on the Night of Champions.
Seth Rollins against Knight: The RAW VS Smackdown theme could extend beyond the tournament matches. Rollins and Knight seem to be on a collision trajectory after money at the bank. Knight attacked Bron Breakker in the latter’s tournament match, seeking revenge for repeated Breakker attacks against Knight under the orders of Rollins. Expect WWE reserving this match with each night of the Champions or Summerslam.
