Austrian GP: Ferrari ready car upgrades as Frederic Vasseur also pinpoints area to improve | F1 News

Ferrari should bring updates to their underperforming car during the next double head Austria-Silverstone.

Mercedes’ victory at the Canada Grand Prix means that Ferrari is now the only F1 Big Four teams without a complete race victory so far this season, the team with their consistency with their SF-25 car throughout a race weekend.

Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished respectively fifth and sixth in Montreal with the latter then admitting that they “really need an upgrade” to try to fill the gap towards the forehead.

Without specifically indicating to which the following two races that the car changes would arrive – the Austrian GP this weekend or the British GP from July 4 to 6 – the boss of the Frederic Vasseur team confirmed that new parts were on the way, although it was not stressed that it is not really where they thought they were most careful.

“We will soon have an upgrade, before the United Kingdom, and perhaps another a little later,” said Vasseur.

“But, honestly, I think there is much more in the execution and what you get from the car, than the potential of the car itself.

Lewis Hamilton was devastated when he discovered that he had hit a groundhog during the Canadian Grand Prix race.

“Now we are at the end of the regulations, when we bring something on the track, we are talking about hundreds rather than tenths and if you do not use the car well, you lose tenths.

“It happened a few times on our side at least – and we are not the only ones. When we brought upgrades in the past, we needed one or two races to adapt the car to the configuration of the new version.

“I want to focus on the team much more on the execution than on the pure potential of the car. But we will bring something.”

Hamilton had said Sky Sports F1 After the race in Canada: “We really need an upgrade and there are a lot of things that must change so that we can participate in the front.

“We have something that, hope it, to come next week [Austria]. I don’t know if it’s a lot, how it is. I don’t think it’s a lot. I just think it’s one of these years. “”

“ We must do a better job ” – Vasseur on the keys of Ferrari

Vasseur conceded that Ferrari had “failed massively” in Canada to perform their racing weekends perfectly, which he considers as crucial – especially around the use of tires – if they want to shoot their disappointing season.

Asked about their prospects about the Red Bull ring at Middle Top speed in Austria, Vasseur said: “The pace was decent in Barcelona that we were quickly in the sector. We were fast in Monaco.

“Even before the weekend, you have to assemble everything in the right place if you want to get a good result. In the use of tires and tire performance, I think there is much more there than cars.

“No matter the car, if the team does a very good job on the tires, they will be in front.

“We saw this in Canada, Monaco and Imola. This is what it is and it will be like that until the end of the season, but it’s the same for everyone and we have to do a better job.”
