You have never seen someone like Ponyboi Writer -Star River Gallo holding a firearm to “the bad guys who are” in a thriller of the New Jersey crowd before – but, again, you have probably never seen someone as the intersex actor any Major film in history.

“It was difficult,” said Gallo Weekly entertainment To innovate again for the community, as an intersex person depicting an intersex protagonist in a cinema of this character. According to the defense group of interactions, intersex people encompass those born with “differences in genital organs, hormones, internal anatomy or chromosomes, compared to the usual two ways that human bodies develop” and Gallo does not take the task of representing this community lightly in the light in the light in the light in the light in the light Ponyboi.

“”[They say] “You find flamboyant trails, you are the first”, but it is in a way a burden to take a little, because I cannot speak for everyone. I cannot be as specific as possible on my own experience. “”

And this specificity is manifested in Ponyboi distinctly.

The film takes place in one night in 2003 Jersey, with Gallo with the holder of the holder sex who, alongside her friend, Angel (YouVictoria Pedretti), is involved in a disorderly criminal plot led by Vinnie (Dylan O’Brien), the boyfriend of an angel and a drug trafficker who has a link with Ponyboi.

“I come from New Jersey, and I grew up, there is a huge cinema cannon based mainly on mob films, but more recently, Jersey Shore“Gallo is reflected, noting the imprint of their original state on pop culture – before they entered and remixed the formula.” I knew that I wanted to create something that felt familiar to the public, to develop a genre that queer people were not part of it and completely turn it over on its head. “”

They add: “I knew that I wanted to create an entry point so that people could consume a story that seemed quite familiar but create curiosity and compassion for intersex people.”

Perhaps the best example of Gallo according to their instinct is a scene towards the beginning of the film, which sees Ponyboi – which, like Gallo, experienced the family and the doctors who tried to hide their intersex status in childhood – to shower and shave the hair of the places everywhere on their bodies.

“Regardless, I wanted to seem to be in a Lana Del Rey clip,” said Gallo laughing, and it’s all the more endearing when you realize half-joke. A similar tone of the parts of PonyboiLike a wild sequence where O’Brien Raps in the naked and melodramatic framing of the piece of Cowboy de Bartlett.

SeriouslyHowever, Gallo observes: “When I wrote this scene, I thought about how a sex worker is preparing for the day. I thought of the way a Intersex, non -binary The sex worker is preparing for the day, the preparations to try to adapt to certain femininity molds, knowing that you cannot adapt them to everyone because your body is different. “”

The moment marks a quiet revelation, contrasted with the bomb of the aesthetics of the film. PonyboiThe history of evolution through light romance with a beautiful stranger (Murray Bartlett) and a volatile – but entirely moving – heart to heart with a trans interpreter (Laid‘S Indya Moore) inside a club while Ponyboi is on the run from Vinnie. While the character brandishes a firearm and things end up blowing in physical fights during the volatile evening, the script of Gallo never loses the grip on the tender underlying of the established intimacy in the shower of Ponyboi.

The power of the scene places us “intimately there, in the calm moments of a person’s life throughout this day,” explains Gallo. “A person we have never seen on the screen before.”

Large image, Gallo knows Ponyboi has weight for many people like them. It is also a cathartic exercise in film therapy for its creator.

“What inspired this? My dad is on show. Being New Jersey,” said Gallo coldly. “For a large part of my life, I did not know that I was intersxuerated. When I discovered this in the realization of the short film [Ponyboi is based on]I realized that I had to make art on this subject. “”

“I felt like I needed to create something that was clean about who I was fully as a person and a very large community of people who vary in different experiences,” explains Gallo. “Not all intersex experiences are the same. I had this deep fervor and this passion for doing something that can talk about all these things.”
