Clayton Kershaw records his 3,000th career strikeout: Dodgers pitcher is just 20th to hit benchmark
There is a new member of the 3,000 strikers’ club. Wednesday evening, the Los Angeles Dodgers icon, Clayton Kershaw, became the 20th launcher in the history of baseball to record 3,000 career withdrawal withdrawals, and only the fourth left -hander. He advanced Vinny Capra Chicago White Sox for the start of the sixth century.
Here is the 3,000th historic with Kershaw:
The stage field was an 85.3 -h / h cursor that caught the outside corner to hit three against Capra. It was the 100th and last Night Kershaw throw – the first time he had recorded 100 throws at the start of departure since 2023.
Then came the Dodger Stadium curtain call:
Overall, Kershaw carried out six innings on Wednesday and granted four points, all deserved, on nine safe strokes with three stick withdrawals and a walk. At the time of its release, the Dodgers dragged 4-2 (Gametracker from Chw-Lad). Kershaw on season now has an MPM of 3.43 after nine starts and 44 ⅔ sleeves.
Now 37 years old, the first withdrawal from the Kershaw League came at the age of 20 on May 25, 2008, when he obtained Skip Schumaker, then with the Cardinals of Saint-Louis, to swing for the third strike. Schumaker was the first striker Kershaw was confronted in the big leagues after Los Angeles selected it with the overall choice n ° 7 in the 2006 amateur draft.
The Nolan Ryan renowned temple is the king of all time in baseball. He fueled 5,714 strikers in a career that lasted games from 27 seasons from 1966 to 193. Randy Johnson (4,875), Roger Clemens (4,672) and Steve Carlton (4,136) are the only other club launchers. Kershaw will join Carlton, Johnson and Ryan at the renowned temple in a few years.
Here is the ranking of all time among left -handed launchers:
- Randy Johnson: 4,875
- Steve Carlton: 4 136
- CC Sabathia: 3,093
- Clayton Kershaw: 3,000 (and count)
- Mickey Lolich: 2,832
Justin Verlander (3,471) and Max Scherzer (3,419) are the other active launchers of the 3000 shots club. The closest to join them is Atlanta Braves Lefty and the defending winner NL Cy Young Chris Sale. The sale has 2,528 panel withdrawals in career and should continue to play for a few more years to join Kershaw in the 3,000 strike club.
Kershaw made his debut in 2025 May after having undergone knee and toe surgeries last fall. Injuries, including shoulder surgery, limited it to only seven departures last season. Kershaw did not launch in the playoffs while the Dodgers won the eighth title of the World Series in the history of the franchise and the second in the Kershaw career (also 2020).
For several seasons now, Kershaw has been taking things from year to year, and we don’t know how long he will play. If he continues to play and his health cooperates, he could climb up to 14th on the withdrawal list on all time by the end of next season. Only nine launchers have 3,500 career with career sticks.
Tre-Gagnant-Vainqueur de Cy Young and former MVP, Kershaw has a career record 216-94 and 2.51 ERA in 18 seasons. These 18 seasons are tied with Bill Russell and Zack Wheat for most of the history of the Dodgers.
