The Portuguese player and his brother Andre, according to the Spanish agency EFE, were killed on the Rias Bajas motorway near Palacios de Sanabria in Zamora, in the northwest of Spain. Jota had just married less than two weeks ago.

“The Portuguese Federation of Futebol and all Portuguese Futebol are completely devastated by the death of Diogo Jota and André Silva this morning in Spain,” said Portugal FA, Dr. Pedro Proenca, in a statement.

JOTA signed for Liverpool in September 2020 Wolverhampton for around $ 40 million. Since then, he has scored a total of 65 goals in 182 games in all competitions with the Reds, winning among other trophies in the Premier League 2024-25 and two trophies in the UEFA Nations League with Portugal.
