Michael Douglas reveals why he ‘had to stop’ acting


Michael Douglas has made an intentional choice to move away from the action – and now he cannot imagine going back.

THE Fatal attraction Star explained why he did not have the immediate intention of returning to a press conference at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic on Saturday.

“I have not worked since 2022 deliberately because I realized that I had to stop,” Douglas told journalists from his break with Hollywood. “I have been working quite hard for almost 60 years, and I didn’t want to be one of those people who fell dead on the set.”

He continued: “I have no real intention to return. I say that I am not retired because if something special came, I would go back. But if not, I am very happy to see my wife working.”

Douglas also addressed her future while reflecting on her career for several decades and the way she was affected by her diagnosis of 2010 Oropharyngeal Cancer.

“Stage 4 cancer is not a vacation, but there are not much choice, isn’t it?” Douglas said. “I went with the program, involving chemo and radiation, and I was lucky … I was lucky for my medical care and I was lucky to continue working. We were able to manage it with radiation and chemotherapy, because otherwise, the surgery would have caused not being able to speak, to speak, as well as the removal of part of your jaw, so it would have been limited as an actor.”

Douglas, who will be 81 years old in September, appeared for the last time on the big screen in the Marvel 2023 entrance, Ant-man and the wasp: Quantumania.
