Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman takes time off tour for hand surgery
The show must continue, but for Fall Out Boy, the group will do it without the main guitarist Joe Trohman for the rest of 2025.
In a statement published on social networks on Monday, the musician said he would need the rest of the year to undergo surgery on the right.
“Hey everyone, after years to manage current problems with my right hand, it has become clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage,” wrote Trohman. “Unfortunately, this means that I will have to take the rest of the year by playing with the group. The silver lining is that I am on the right track for a complete recovery.”
He continued: “The group will always play all the programs planned. I can’t wait to recover so I can come back with the guys. Thank you very much for love and support.”
Trohman, who has been a guitarist in the group since its creation in 2001, previously took a little time in the group in January 2023. At the time, he said that he would go for an indefinite period to focus on his mental health, writing in a social media declaration, “Neil Young once it is better that it does not do. Must reveal that my mental health has quickly deteriorated in recent years.
He added: “I have to recover, which means putting me myself and my mental health first. Thank you to everyone, including my group comrades and my family, for understanding and respected this difficult, but necessary decision.”
Trohman started playing with Fall Out Boy in May of the same year.
The group – which also includes the main singer and rhythm guitarist Patrick Stump, the bass player Pete Wentz and the drummer Andy Hurley – has not yet revealed who will collect the coat of Trohman in his absence, but the group has a slate occupied in the coming months.
