Christian Horner: Former Red Bull team principal says sacking came as a ‘shock’ in tearful farewell speech | F1 News

Christian Horner admitted his dismissal while the director of the Red Bull team had come as a “shock” when he had made a farewell speech in tears at the team’s factory.

The 51 -year -old man was informed of his dismissal – after 20 years of responsibility – on Tuesday, but had the opportunity to speak to his former employees at the British basis of Red Bull on Wednesday in Milton Keynes.

Sky Sports News obtained images of Horner’s farewell speech during which he melted in tears and received long ovations from his former colleagues.

Craig Slater of Sky Sports is joined by the commentator of F1, David Croft, to discuss the chronology of the way Christian Horner is as director of the Red Bull team.

Horner said: “Yesterday, Red Bull informed me that in operational level, I would no longer be involved in the company or the team in the future.

“I will always remain employed by the company, but, operationally, the stick will be given.

“It was a shock for me. I had the chance to think in the last 12 hours and I wanted to stand in front of you all to announce this news and express my gratitude to each member of the team that has given so much in the last 20 and a half years.

Martin Brundle is thinking about the news that Christian Horner was dismissed by Red Bull with immediate effect after 20 years as director of the Formula 1 team.

“When I arrived 20 years ago, there were a few less gray hair. I entered a team and I did not know what to expect, but I was immediately welcomed and we started to build what has become a power in F1.

“Watching and being part of this team was the greatest privilege of my life.”

Laurent Mekies was appointed CEO of Red Bull Racing, from the Racing Bulls team where Alan Permanest will now take matters into hand.
