It is the rare silent season for university football coaches, a brief window between official visits and the fall camp when the version briefly strikes the break. With recruitment in a dead period and the training of August again in weeks, some coaches sneak in a few laps – Although probably not as much as Hugh Freeze d’Auburn – to keep their handicap away. Or in the case of Tulsa’s first -year coach, Tre Lamb, qualifying for the amateur championship of the Oklahoma Golf Association State.
The 35 -year -old man carded a 3 against 75 in Thursday’s qualification at the Forest Ridge club in Broken Arrow, finishing just on the cup line to claim one of the last places. The 33 best players and links have progressed to the main draw of the Oklahoma Golf Association state, which is scheduled for July 21 to 24 at Cedar Ridge Country Club, also in Broken Arrow.
The lamb had two birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in turn.
“The first time I played it,” Lamb told Jeremie Poplin from Kotv. “It’s a bit original. There are three or four holes that sneak you in a hurry. The n ° 1 is really hard, (nos) 13 and 14 are really hard. I made a double on 14, Bogey on the 13th. I made it ride quite well over there for a little then finished there, coming with adjustments and birdies.
“It’s a fun course. It’s hot here today. It is 96 degrees. I went to training this morning at 6:30 am and these guys sweat pretty well, but it’s fun. I love golf. I love competition. I don’t know how many these elements are left to me.”
LAMB was appointed coach of Tulsa in December 2024 after a season at East Tennessee State and four years in Gardner-Webb. He has a file of 27-25 as a chief coach of the FCS. He also spent seven seasons as an offensive assistant – four at Mercer, three at Tennessee Tech, his Alma Mater – after his playing career.
LAMB designed a quick turnaround in Gardner -Webb, leading the program to its first Big South title since 2003 and its first FCS qualifying series victory in 2022. He followed it with another conference title in 2023 and consecutive appearances in the playoffs – the first two in the program.
During his only season at East Tennessee State, Lamb took a team after consecutive campaigns from 3 to 8 and led him to a finish of 7 to 5, with four of the five defeats decided by a single figure.
He inherits a Tulsa program which comes out of three consecutive seasons with two appearances in the past eight years.
