Wimbledon: ‘Surprised’ Iga Swiatek ready to face Amanda Anisimova in final no one saw coming | Tennis News
Iga Swiatek says she surprised herself with her form on the grass, and is only a victory for a first title of Wimbledon Senior.
The post grew with confidence the whole tournament and was personified in calm during his 6-2 6-0 victory in the semi-finals against Belinda Bencic who only lasted 72 minutes.
The heat on the ground came from the Swiatk racket, which has somewhat improbably backwards to form on the lawns in SW19.
It was, according to her extremely high standards, a scorching campaign on her privileged clay for the young woman of 24, but a race to the final of the Grass-Court tournament in Bad Homburg on the eve of Wimbledon seems to have been the catalyst.
It was the first latest swiatek had reached any level since he won his fifth Grand Slam title to the French Open last spring, and now she is only a match of corresponding Carlos Alcaraz by winning major trophies on each surface.
Swiatek won the female title here seven years ago, but had never been beyond the quarter-finals of the main event so far and asked if she had surprised herself, she said: “I did it. Yes, that’s for sure.
“Honestly, I never even dreamed that it was going to be possible for me to play in the final. I am simply super excited. I thought I would have lived on the ground but I did not live well on the grass.
“I feel confident and I’m just going to that. It is sure it works.”
By not winning the French Open for the first time since 2021, Swiatek had more time to prepare for the grass, and this work has paid off in style.
She denied feeling less pressure this year, saying, “I think I’m not going to have seasons where the pressure will no longer be forced to have been forced from the expectations from the outside.
“Each year, it’s a bit the same thing, but I think that sometimes I can manage it better or ignore it. I think it’s easier if you haven’t won Roland Garros and also if you had more time to train.”
Anisimova: Being in the Wimbledon final is indescribable
Given her additional experience to these last stages of slams, and the fact that she does not yet lose a final, Swiatek will be the favorite as a favorite against the first American Amanda Anisimova, who will nevertheless bring much more firepower than Bencic.
Anisimova amazed the number 1 of the world and the title Aryna Sabalenka 6-4 4-6 6-4 to reach the Wimbledon final only two years after having moved away from sport to prioritize its mental health.
“Getting out in mind and being in the final at Wimbledon is incredibly special,” said Anisimova.
“To be honest, if you told me, I would be in the final in Wimbledon, I won’t believe you.
“Being there is not easy. Being in the finals is indescribable.”
