‘Pokémon’ voice actor was 71

James Carter Cathcart, the vocal actor known to portray several characters in the dups in English many Pokémon Projects, who died Tuesday morning at Calvary in Bronx hospital, New York. He was 71 years old.

His wife, Martha Jacobi, announced the news on Facebook.

“Thank you to all Jimmy fans over the years!” She wrote in an article concerning the Cathcart fans page. “Give you joy, that’s why he worked so hard on his job. Know how he appreciated you!”

Jacobi also announced that her husband’s funeral will be held next month in New York and that she was making arrangements with “one of the charitable organizations that was close to Jimmy’s heart” for commemorative designations.

A cause of death has not been disclosed.

Kotaku reported that Cathcart retired in 2023 after undergoing chemotherapy treatment for throat cancer.

Colleague actor of the voice Erica Schroeder, who played Eevee and others Pokémon Characters, published a tribute to Cathcart on Instagram.

“Rest in peace dear gentle man,” she wrote. “I will miss you. I will miss the community.

Born in New Jersey in 1954, Cathcart began his career as a member of The Laughing Dogs, a rock group that frequently played at the New York CBGB in the 1970s. The group released two albums with Columbia Records and did a tour with Blondie, The Patti Smith Group and Cheap Trick.

The actor expressed Cap’n Og Readmore, the cartoon cat which favored the literacy of childhood and was initially expressed by Frank Welker, for the ABC Weekend Special Anthology series in the 1980s.

Sometimes credited like Jimmy Zoppi, Cathcart was mainly known for his prolific contributions to the English versions of many Pokémon projects, first playing Fergus in 1998 Pokémon: the first film Before taking control of the emblematic roles of Meowth, the Rocket team and Professor Oak in subsequent projects. Cathcart is credited in more than 30 Pokémon Projects, several of which also list it as a script adapter, according to IMDB.

Cathcart also expressed Vector the Crocodile in several Sonic the hedgehog Weevil Underwood projects and play in a few Yu-gi-oh securities. Its other screen credits include Ninja Turtles mutant teenage,, One piece,, Odyssey mission,, Funky copAnd APE Escape 2. He also released a solo album, I miss youin 2009.
