Super League: St Helens in 6-0 win over Leeds as Wigan fight back to beat Huddersfield amid Sir Billy Boston tributes | Rugby League News

Owen Dagnall’s first test proved to be enough to send St. Helens to the unlikely peaks of the third of the Betfred Super League table with an exhausting 6-0 victory against Leeds at Amt Headingley.

After a start to the season sprinkled with acrimony and questions about the future of head coach Paul Welens, the saints come well when it is important and the effort of Dagnall has sealed a fifth consecutive victory since their defeat at Hull KR at the end of May.

It was a particularly courageous victory for the saints given the defeats in the first half of Daryl Clark and Jake Burns with injuries in the head, activating the 18th man Jon Bennison and requiring an astonishing effort by Matty Lees who played the whole match in the first row of the saints.

For rhinoceros, it was too familiar a story because they lost for the seventh consecutive time at home against the saints in Super League, and but for a forbidden effort by James McDonnell, they rarely looked threatening in the last third.

The saints had already lost Clark, who came out worse in a confrontation with Mikolaj Oledzki, when Dagnall grabbed a delayed delayed pass from Tristan Sailor to twist through two plated of weak Leeds in the 15th minute.

Lomax missed the conversion but added two 10 minutes later after Jake Connor was penalized for catching Harry Robertson High, and they had to prove the last points during an evening in Headingley.

Paul Wellens estimated that the laundering of St Helens against Leeds Rhinos was the best defensive display he saw during the 20 years at the club

It was not the best nights for Connor in a differently stellar campaign and two consecutive loose passes, targeting Alfie Edgell but navigating in touch, Leeds’ capacity knew how to climb on the dashboard before the hooter at half-time.

In a rare opening in the second half, McDonnell crossed the right only so that his test is excluded for a push by Harry Newman in construction.

Otherwise, Leeds simply failed to break a resolved rear guard of the saints, with Lees and the young Harry Robertson exceptional.

Leeds was furious when referee Jack Smith took no measure for an apparent shoulder load from Lees on Edgell, and temperatures were again effiled just after the hour bar where Agnatius Paasi was wrapped by sin for reaching Edgell.

Protective facts of the clash of the Super League between the Warriors and the Giants of Huddersfield

The first points of Christian Wade’s Super League and an amazing test ended by Jake Wardle Saw Wigan Rally of a deficit of 10-0 half-time to beat Huddersfield 30-10.

A night when the Warriors honored Sir Billy Boston after the chivalry granted to the honors of the King’s birthday, Huddersfield seemed determined to spoil the party while the first half’s trials of Tui Lolohea and Jacob Gagai put them in control, with Wigan making expensive errors.

But everything changed in the second half while Union Convert Wade – making its long -awaited debut after the former England winger and the NFL ball carrier was signed in April – ran during his first Wigan test before a remarkable game phase ends with Harry Smith’s kick to find Wardle to score in the area.

Wardle then added a second before Tyler Dupree and Junior Nsemba closed what looked like a vital victory for Wigan, second, who entered her first home game in seven, after losing two of their previous three. Adam Keighran converted the five wigan tests.

The hosts were in a festive mood while Boston, which scored 478 trials in 488 appearances for the club, was celebrated during a pre-match ceremony, but Huddersfield quickly ruined the atmosphere while Lolohea jumped high to beat Jai Field in Matt Frawley, the suspended kick of Matt Frawley.

The 34 -year -old Wade did the action after injuries at Liam Marshall and Abbas Miski, showed an impressive leg game when he had the chance to run, but was also guilty of a priest taking which offered visitors the position of the land necessary for Gagai to take place in the second trial in the 19th minute.

Having had a hard time starting, Wigan then wasted which looked like a certain try in the 28th minute. Field finally crossed the Huddersfield line with an excellent model but his pass to Liam Farrell was forward.

Frustration increased more before half-time when Smith’s test was excluded with Patrick Mago, perhaps harshly judged to have obstructed George King.

The hosts finally obtained a 10 -minute break in the second half when George Flanagan dropped a high kick from Smith, and Wigan moved him from the fray to Wade to buy his previous error with a first try.

This suddenly felt a different match and a few minutes later, Wigan finished 11 passes before Smith’s kick found Wardle to dive into the area.

Wardle obtained his second of the night in the 65th minute, but it was a much simpler affair because he took a short pass from the field to make his way above the line, with other trials of Dupree and Nsemba, which makes the score much more comfortable than it was.
