On November 13, 2022, students from the Idaho University, Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin, were stabbed to death in a residence outside campus. Goncalves, 21 years old; Mogen, 21; Kernodle, 20 years old; And Chapin, 20, were found dead on November 13, 2022, in a house outside campus where Goncalves, Mogen and Kernodle lived with two other roommates. On December 30, a month and a half after the murders, police announced that they had arrested a suspect, Bryan Kohberger, in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania, more than 2,000 miles from the crime site. He was then extradited to Idaho, according to the New York Times.
Who is Bryan Kohberger?

At the time of his arrest, Kohberger was 28 years old and had recently completed his first semester as a study in doctorate criminology at the Washington State University Campus, about 15 minutes by car from Moscow.
Kohberger was officially accused of four first degree murder leaders and a criminal burglary chief on December 20, 2022. According to CBS News, Kohberger’s lawyer said his client had refused allegations of his involvement in the murders.
But when he charged in May 2023, Kohberger refused to plead, choosing to “be silent”. On his behalf, the court pleaded “not guilty”. In April 2024, Fox News reported that Kohberger lawyers “firmly” believed in his innocence.
Addressing CBS News, one of Kohberger’s neighbors in Pullman, Washington, said Kohberger had mentioned the murders in the conversation a few days after their arrival. “”[He] Asked if I had heard of murders, which I did, “they said.” And then he said, “Yes, it seems that they have no tracks. Kohberger’s reputation was less positive at the Washington State University. What proof is Kohberger to murders?
While a reason for crime remains elusive and no evidence shows that Kohberger had previous contacts with the victims, the prosecutors shared evidence that they say Kohberger to the murders during a hearing on July 2, 2025, according to the New York Times.

The Kohberger’s plea agreement allows him to escape the death penalty, which the prosecutors would have pushed if the case had been judged, according to CBS News. In exchange, the advocacy recommends that Kohberger is serving four consecutive perpetuity penalties for murders and an additional 10 years for the charging accusation. In addition, he renounces any right to appeal and will never be eligible for parole.
A judge will decide whether or not to accept the recommended sentence in the advocacy agreement during a hearing of determination of the sentence of July 23.
Currently, Kohberger is expecting a conviction in Ada County prison in Boisse, Idaho.
