2025 MLB Draft winners and losers: Eli Willits, surprise Angels pick, Rockies social media and more from Day 1

The recovery of the MLB 2025 is there. The two -day and 20 lap event started on Sunday evening in Trist Park in Atlanta, home of the star match. The Nationals won the recovery lottery and held the n ° 1 choice for the third time in the history of the franchise. Their first two choices No. 1 were circuits: Stephen Strasburg in 2009 and Bryce Harper in 2010. I can’t do much better than that.

Washington used the overall choice n ° 1 of this year on Oklahoma High School Eli Willis, Our classified hope n ° 1 in the project class. Unsurprisingly, the selection has won a “A” note from us. Here are all the choices made on Sunday And here are some winners plus a loser for day 1 of the 2025 draft.

Winner: Nationals and Willit

Washington won the Draft lottery in December and that gave them access to Willit, a switch stop with an excellent IQ of baseball. His father, Reggie Willitus, played six years in the big leagues and is a current university coach. Make the choice n ° 1 and you are a winner in my book. In addition, Willits is also a winner. How can you not be when you are not only selection n ° 1 in the country, but also the youngest choice n ° 1 in the history of the MLB? Congratulations to Willits and Congratulations to the Nationals for adding another fundamental piece.

Winner: Tyler Bremner

In 2025, UC Santa Barbara Right Tyler Bremner was a candidate to go n ° 1 in total. However, he had a spring from top to bottom, and at some point, he seemed to go to the back of the first round. It did not happen. Bremner was the overall choice n ° 2 of the angels. Thus, not only was he written very high, but he also joined a team known for having pushed their prospects on a scale aggressively. Angels is recruiting Chase Silseth (2021), Zach Neto (2022) and Nolan Schanuel (2023) were the first players in their respective draft courses to reach the big leagues, and Ryan Johnson (2024) was on the alignment of the opening day this year. Bremner could be in rotation in two weeks! It’s a joke, but it may not be?

The navies were the biggest winners of the lottery day. They left choice n ° 17 to n ° 3, which allowed them to select LSU Lefty Kade Anderson. Seattle would have had no chance of writing Anderson – none, zero – if they had stayed at n ° 17. Anderson was the best hope of pitching the draft class and a solid candidate to go n ° 1 in total. In addition, they have already accepted an agreement, so business is wrapped.

The college in the seattle shooting and they added a high -level flight arm to an already solid system. Anderson wins here too. He landed with an organization that should bring out the best of him. If I were a college starter, I know that I would be happy to join the team that has Logan Gilbert and George Kirby in his rotation.

Winner: the social media team of rockies

And also the rocks and their fans, but especially the social media team. The Colorado selected Ethan Holliday, Matt’s son and Jackson’s brother, with the overall selection n ° 4. Matt Holliday played for the Rockies from 2004 to 2008 and 2018. People from social networks made baby spin: baby: baby photos:

Adorable. Always has the same haircut too. Jackson (n ° 1 in 2022) and Ethan Holliday are the 14th set of brothers selected in the first round and the third set written in the first five, joining BJ (n ° 2 in 2022) and Justin Upton (n ° 1 in 2005), and Dmitri (n ° 4 in 1991) and Delmon Young (n ° 1 in 2003).

Winner: Corona High School

The Corona High School in southern California produced Right Seth Hernandez, the choice n ° 6 of the pirates, and the Billy Carlson stop stop, the choice n ° 10 of the White Sox. They are the eighth set of secondary teammates taken in the first round, and the first from Max Fried and Lucas Giolito in 2012. Not only that, but Corona is now the first high school to have produced two best choices in the same project. A third Corona player, the interior field player Brady Ebel, was selected by the Brewers with the choice n ° 32. Corona was only a few choices to become the first high school to produce three first rounds in a year.

Winner: A

The left -hander of Florida State Jamie Arnold could have gone as high as the n ° 2 overall, and that would not have surprised anyone. Athletics obtained it with choice n ° 11. Arnold has a bizarre fast bullet which had an assistance rate around 50% this spring, not necessarily because it illuminates the radar pistol but because it has an angle of funky arm and checks all the analytical boxes (spin flow, movement, angle of approach, etc.). The A transformed their choices in 2023 (Jacob Wilson) and 2024 (Nick Kurtz) in the first round in large almost instant leaguers. Arnold has the talent to join these two Oakland Sacramento in the next 12 months.

Loser: fans who wanted to see the new prospect of their team

As usual, the recovery of the MLB was broadcast live and Commissioner Rob Manfred went to the desk to announce each first -round choice. This year, however, players were missing. No prospects attended the project for the first time in 15 years. Instead, players conducted video interviews at home. It’s quite lame. If you are going to televise the project, you should have at least a few players present, right? This is the next generation of players. Let the fans taste them and see the next great prospect of their team. The MLB project is not a big event designed for television. It is even more true without the players there.
