British tennis player Tara Moore was prohibited for four years after a court agreed with the International Tennis Integrity Agency that she should be suspended for consuming drugs improving performance.
Moore, a former double classified player n ° 1 in Great Britain, said that she had never knowingly taken a prohibited substance in her career.
It was tested positive for anabolic steroids Boldenone and Nandrolone in April 2022, but was eliminated in December 2023 after an independent court determined that the result was caused by the consumption of contaminated meat while it was in competition in Colombia.
The ITIA appealed the decision, focusing on the part of the conclusions linked to Nandrolone, and the Arbitration Court for Sport ruled in favor of ITIA, claiming that the majority of its panel estimated that Moore could not prove that the sample was consistent with the ingestion of contaminated meat.
“For ITIA, each case is considered according to individual facts and circumstances,” said its managing director Karen Moorhouse in a statement.
“Our bar to call on a first instance decision is high, and the decision is not taken lightly. In this case, our independent scientific council was that the player did not adequately explain the high level of Nandrolone present in their sample. Today’s decision is in accordance with this position.”
Moore, 32, is currently classified 864th in the world in simple and 187th in doubles, playing mainly in events of WTA tour of lower level since his return from her provisional suspension after the positive test.
Moore previously said how she had seen her reputation, her classification and her livelihoods “which slowly move away” for 19 months during her initial suspension.
The decision said Tuesday that these 19 months will be credited for its suspension.
