Heavyweight boxing explained: Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and the future of the division | Boxing News

There should only be one. But the road to the undisputed championship of modern heavy goods vehicles is labyrinthine, strewn with traps, stirring and the hardest punchers on the planet.

At least we know who is the best heavy goods vehicle in the world. Oleksandr Usyk turned out to be the pre -eminent fighter of the division after defeating Tyson Fury twice and winning two victories on Anthony Joshua and a previous victory against Daniel Dubois.

But he is not the only man in the division to hold a belt.

Who are the champions?

The Ukraine Ukraine Oleksandr is the world champion of unified heavyweights. The Olympic gold medalist has become an undisputed champion first in Cruiserweight. He started his reign of the title of heavy goods vehicles when he exceeded Anthony Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2021, winning the WBO, WBA and IBF championships. He defended these belts in a revenge match with Joshua and his victory over Daniel Dubois.

This put it in place for its undoubted title capital clash last year with Tyson Fury, then the Titlist of WBC heavy goods vehicles. USYK hurt Fury in the ninth round and won a divided decision.

It saw Usyk become the first incontestable heavy world champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999 and the first of the era with four celdres.

Contracted for revenge, Usyk won a unanimous victory over Fury in his second fight in December.

At that time, if Usyk had been forced to lose a belt. His commitment to Fury revenge meant that he could not make a compulsory defense of the IBF title. He left and Dubois was raised in full IBF world champion without punching.

Dubois, however, validated his status as world champion when he brutally eliminated Anthony Joshua at the Wembley stadium last September.

On July 19, he returned to Wembley at Box Usyk in a second undisputed heavy title fight in the years consecutive years.

Who will win?

Usyk has already fought Dubois and stopped it in their ninth round. Former world champion and Sky Sports The Pundit George Groves gave his prediction: “From what I saw from Ushyk, I always think it looks quite fresh and quite good, on it and lit. A usyk who is always at the top of his game beats the best Dubois in my opinion.

“Maybe he ages at a given moment and maybe there is not quite and perhaps Dobois, who is confident, brings these improvements, [is] A solid force could do something.

“I think he [Usyk] is still there and if he is still there, I think he beats Dubois. “”

The truck candidate Fabio Wardley has a lively professional interest in the fight. He said Sky Sports: “I find it very difficult to bet against [Usyk]. I do nine times out of 10 back the brit, I always want to see a British victory, I always want to see the belts come back to the ground at home.

“But the form in which he is, the way he goes about his work, he seems a little undeniable at the moment.

“He is on a kind of mission that will simply not be stopped, will not be derailed. So in one way or another, I think he always finds a means.”

Who will the winner then fight?

A compulsory defense of the WBO heavyweight belt is then due, with Joseph Parker online for this shot. The winner of revenge Usyk-Dubois should either fight Parker from New Zealand, or leave the WBO belt.

Parker was in great shape, beating Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang to become the temporary WBO titlist. He had to challenge Dubois for the IBF championship, but when Dubois fell ill, a few days before the fight, Parker eliminated the short -term replacement Martin Bakole.

Will Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury come back?

All signs are that the former Joshua and Fury champions intend to return to the competition in the end of the heavyweight division.

Joshua has not boxed since his heavy defeat against Dubois. The idea of a revenge match of Dubois, daringly floated in the immediate consequences of the first fight, faded, but the hopes of Joshua to box his great rival Fury were affected when, at the beginning of this year, Fury said he would retire.

But Fury has since said that he wanted to box again, but said that his preference concerned a trilogy fight with Usyk in 2026.

Joshua has not yet defined an opponent for his next fight, but he is likely to box before the end of the year.

Who are the other truck contenders?

To keep the heavy goods vehicles highly classified as active, the sanction organizations of the world title have created a series of secondary belts, which in fact help decide on their compulsory suitors.

Excessive WBAs have a champion of “regular” heavyweights in Kubrat Pulev, an acting titlist in Fabio Wardley as well as their complete or “super” USYK champion.

ACIT KABAYEL holds the interim WBC strap, but a compulsory WBC challenger has not yet been settled.

The IBF ordered Frank Sanchez to face Efe Ajagba in an eliminator, the winner becoming a compulsory challenger for his truck title.

Who is the heavy goods vehicle to look at?

Great Britain has a quick rising star at Moses Itauma. Still at only 20 years old, young heavy goods vehicles had a formidable reputation as an amateur in the level of young people and juniors. He struck fighters like Anthony Joshua and Lawrence Okolie when he was only to school himself.
