St Helens vs Leigh Leopards: Paul Wellens ‘not concerned’ by St Helens attack ahead of key Super League clash | Rugby League News

St Helens’ head coach Paul Welens says that he is “not too concerned” by the attacking struggles of his team when they compete Thursday in the form of Leigh Leopards.

St Helens is one of the Super League teams, winning its last five consecutive games, but apart from two heavy victories on the Red Devils of Salford Low, Wellens’ team only scored 37 points through victories on Leeds rhinos (twice) and Hull FC, based on a robust defense.

They come up against another red heated team Thursday evening in Leigh – live on Sky Sports Action from 7:30 p.m. (kick -off at 8 p.m.) – who seated a higher place in the third row, having won impressive victories on Wigan and Hull Kr table in second row, beating the last 28-10 last week.

“I think they are doing a lot,” said Wellens about Leigh when he talks to Sky Sports before their confrontation.

“Obviously, they are very competitive, above all. Their work ethics are up there with each competition team, and they have a lot of individual attack threats that can hurt you.

“I think that the reason they succeed in the league, the reason why they win matches against good opposition is their collective work ethics.

“I think you need it in this competition if you are going to beat the best teams, which they have obviously managed to do in the past two weeks.”

As for the attacking difficulties of his own team in recent weeks, despite their victories sequence, Wellens has added: “I think the way we sometimes defend can sometimes withdraw our attack.

St Helens’ head coach Paul Wellens admitted that their defensive style could “withdraw their attack” but says that he “is not too worried”.

“Players like Matthew Lees and Morgan Knowles really make their energy in defensive efforts, and I would not have otherwise, but certainly advancing us, we will seek to improve with the ball in hand.

“I think it is important to make these improvements, but I am not too concerned at that time.

“I think the way we play, we have to grind games in a difficult way at that time, but we will certainly seek to advance these improvements.”
