Leeds Rhinos 42-6 Salford Red Devils: Alfie Edgell treble helps Brad Arthur’s side ease to home Super League win | Rugby League News

The hat-trick of the hat of Alfie Edgell helped the Rhinos of Leeds to raise the courageous Reds of Salford and to turn on his Betfred Super League dam push with a 42-6 victory in Headingley.

The rhinoceros, frustrated at home by St Helens a week ago, had again seemed far from convincing and reached half-time just four points from their adversaries affected in crisis, whose players would have spent a large part of this week threatening to go on strike.

Instead, Paul Rowley’s men began to overflow with confidence after only their second victory of the season against Castleford last Sunday, and barely deserved to be at the end of such a unilateral score while their resistance faded and Leeds ran into five tests after the interval.

Brad Arthur’s team had been simply abject during the first period and reached the very lucky Hooter to have an advance through two EDGELL trials and the first two of the 14 points which would finally be added by the Jake Connor trunk.

Visitors, whose players had attended a crisis meeting with RFL officials on Wednesday in the middle of continuous concern concerning the non-arrival of a bridging loan intended to guarantee their future until the end of the season, was close to getting deadlocked through Chris Hankins and Joe Mellor.

It took Leeds 19 minutes to go ahead of Edgell, and when the 20 -year -old repeated the feat three minutes later at the end of a sweeping movement that started with Ryan Hall on the opposite flank, he seemed to be as usual.

But Leeds was sloppy and poorly disciplined, and Salford should have punished them more than Ryan Brierley’s effort when he was allowed to move until the end of his own Grubber.

Salford has carried out the whole race in the last 15 minutes of the first period, Harvey Wilson getting closer, Ethan Ryan pushed touched by a connor saving, and the superb Murphy Declan which jumped half the length of the terrain to score so as not to be refused for a previous obstruction.

Leeds finally obtained a sort of adhesion on the procedure five minutes after the start of the second half when Connor sent Lachlan Miller to weave the defense of Salford to mark the third try of his team.

He inevitably opened the valves. Connor added a penalty and Edgell completed his hat-trick a few moments after Matthew Foster was sent to the Sin-Bin to make the game safe.
