James Gunn says it was ‘terrible’ letting go of Henry Cavill ahead of new ‘Superman’
Before the ink dried up on James Gunn’s contract with DC Studios, its plans to relaunch the Superman The franchise struck a hitch: Henry Cavill had announced his return as a steel man.
The director, however, had a different vision of the future of Clark Kent. Appearing on the Happy sad confusion Podcast, Gunn remembers sitting with Cavill to let him go.
Gunn shared that he had concluded the agreement to become the new DC studios chief the same day that Cavill said he was taking over the role of Superman. Needless to say, the announcement was a surprise for the Galaxy goalkeepers director.
“I say to myself,” What’s going on? We know what is the “” plan, Gunn told the host of the Podcast Josh Horowitz.
Gunn recognized that there was a “emptiness” of leadership in the DC studios when he signed to take charge of the division. Consequently, the sons were crossed and Cavill did not know that Gunn would go in a different direction with Superman.
“It was really unfair for him and it was total disappointment,” he said.
For his part, Cavill was “an absolute gentleman” on the situation, noted Gunn. The only request of the actor was that he was authorized to share the update first, rather than to ensure that the DC studios announce the news.

The emblematic role of superheroes finally went to David Corenswet, who beat the precursors Jacob Elardi, Doggy style Actor Tom Brittney, Andrew Richardson and Lex Luthor himself, Nicholas Hoult, for the role. Corenswet even received a few words of Cavill’s encouragement when he was interpreted as Krypton’s last son, so it seems that there is no grudge.

Despite the unfortunate circumstances surrounding their meeting, Gunn does not close the door by incorporating Cavill into his new DCU.
“I would love to put Henry in something,” he said.
