Helen Trappelides: MCC Female Young Broadcaster of the Year 2025 winner announced | Cricket News
Helen Trappelides was appointed young MCC broadcaster of the year for 2025 following a competition supported by Sky Sports.
The 20 -year -old woman received her prize at Lord’s before the start of the second Women’s Odi between England and India on Saturday.
Helen, a student in English literature at the University of Warwick and from London, is a true lover of all sports and has spoken of her joy to win the prize at Sky Sports commentator Mel Jones.
“I really hope that I will be able to continue talking to current and old players and coaches and one day realize the goal of having my own sports show,” she said.
“I am very involved in the newspaper student at the university and I wrote a lot of sports articles. This allows me to be a little more creative and free with my writing outside my diploma.
“I was able to write an article on Sir James Anderson and his career recently and I love being able to write and talk about my passions. This is really where I had the idea of participating in this competition.”
Launched for the first time last year, the competition, supported by Sky Sports And the main charity of cricket takes its lead, aims to increase opportunities for young women who aspire to build a career in sports broadcasting, while discovering and supporting the next generation of female dissemination talents in cricket.
Following a strong interest and “many incredibly high -quality showreel bids”, the jury selected Helen as a winner.
“When I looked at your application for the first time, I thought:” It’s something a little different “,” said Jones.
“You played every role. You are the presenter, the player, the interviewer. He really stood out.”
“I decided to create my own” sketch “on Tiktok using a green screen function they have,” added Helen. “I based it a lot on the type of content I saw on the sky.
“I pretended to interview myself with a match that I had played at university and that something was hypothetical about what I said, but I had a lot of fun doing it, I had the main idea of the kind of thing I do and it materialized.”
As part of its prize, Helen will return to Lord’s and join the Sky Sports Cricket Comments team for their broadcasting of The Hunged Final on Saturday August 31.
The judgment committee included the director of Sky Sports de Cricket & NFL Bryan Henderson, the broadcaster and founder of Take Her Her Isa Guha, the director of marketing and communication of the MCC, Katie Maier, commentator and broadcaster Georgie Heath, journalist and broadcaster Alison Mitchell as well as the broadcaster and president of MCC, Mark Nicholas.
Five preselected finalists were also announced on Saturday. Lara Davies, Sharon Akrofi, Syeda Rizvi, Polly Starkie and Catherine Johnson were all appreciated by the judges and invited to Lord’s for the day.
