USA 5-40 England: Six-try victory ends summer tour amid lightning delays | Rugby Union News

England raised the shoulders of two long delays caused by lightning to Washington DC to end their summer tour with a complete 40-5 victory against the United States.

After beating Argentina 2-0 in South America, the third match of the tour in England in Audi Field began an hour late due to an electric storm in the American capital.

The game was then interrupted almost half an hour, the two sets of players spending 40 minutes in the locker room before the action resumed.

England finally lacked comfortable winners with six tries shared by Curtis Langdon, Luke Northmore, Cadan Murley, Jack Van Poortvliet, Harry Randall and Gabriel Oghre.

George Ford added four conversions and Charlie Atkinson One in a dominant display in which the Harlequins Flanker Chandler Cunningham-South were exceptional.

The United States had never beaten England in seven previous attempts, but started on the front foot and designed promising field positions.

But the Eagles were reduced to 14 by a deliberate hand from the outside of Chris Hilsenbeck and England took advantage of their additional figures with a 11th minute test.

Ford kicked in the corner and Langdon was the beneficiary of a line of conduct that half-flies, winning its 102nd ceiling, converted.

England quickly worked another opening and the new boy Max Ojomoh slipped into his colleague Northmore for a simple score with Ford again by adding the extras.

Alex Dombrandt thought that he had extended the advance from the back of a maul, but his efforts were excluded for obstruction and the players were then withdrawn from the field after 29 minutes due to new concerns of lightning.

On their return, lightning – this time in the metaphorical sense – struck twice for England while the great rear Jack Carpenter was refused a first trial by a hand at Murley.

But the patience of England was rewarded during the final game of the first half while Murley spotted a gap to run.

Van Poortvliet, showing its position of position of position, passed just after the restart so that Ford converts, and England camped in the 22 of the Americans during most of the second period.

The hosts held until Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, making his first appearance after six months with a shoulder injury and a ban on two games for a high tackle which saw him miss the Argentine matches, trenched.

The Exeter wing has shown a good conscience to send Randall, and the last act of Ford before giving way to Atkinson was to add two other points.

England has turned to their bench strongly in the last quarter, but there was no relaxation and Bristol Hooker Oghre celebrated its first cap with a burst at the line that Atkinson added.

The United States was finally on the dashboard in the last seconds as a well-worked scheme at the front of an exit line, Chris Poidevin put Shilo Klein for a consolation score.
