Drake Bell says most Nickelodeon stars ‘don’t get residuals’ for their shows
After his revelations of bombs on the abuse he suffered as a Nickelodeon star, Drake Bell now opens with the financial realities of his time on the network.
Despite Drake and Josh Being a favorite series of fans and the catapultant to glory, he was not as profitable as people can expect, said Bell during a visit to the The unexpected podcast. Bell and Co-Star Josh Peck never received residues for their time on the show, in fact, he said.
“It is the perception of the world – it has always been like that: it’s like, you know:” Oh, you made an advertisement on folgers. You have to live in a mansion in Hollywood. I saw you on television, you are rich “,” said Bell. “This is far from the case. And especially – which is the disappointment of most of us on Nickelodeon – we do not get residues for our programs.”

Bell said that unlike other networks, Nickelodeon Stars has received a unique payment for their work. When the host Matt Howard asked if the lack of residue was due to the fact that the network was enjoying their age, Bell joked: “Continue! Continue trying to understand it.”
He added: “It is a lot of evil and corrupt people … This is the answer. There is no other answer. Make everything they do mentally and emotionally, then throw us in the wolves. And we say:” Okay, cool. I was rented this month. “”
Bell said that even if the sitcom still has an audience and has found a new life on streaming platforms, it did not take advantage of it directly.
“There are three channels that make Drake and Josh Marathons. Netflix has just bought it, it is in the top 10 on Netflix, and I must understand how to pay my rent this month, “said Bell.” And a big cat with a cigar is just sitting at the top of Viacom … It’s just like putting yourself at the top of the workforce. “”
He continued: “We put all these works. This company does billions with a” B “out of us, and we are paid for the week of work, cool, but that’s it. And forever, perpetuity, he literally says in the contract, through universes and galaxies and planets.” He joked: “If Elon [Musk] brings us to March and they show Drake and JoshIt is impossible for me to be paid for this. “”

Bell also said that the lack of residues did not apply to everyone on the network, adding that the “guest stars” were an exception: “There are people who said two lines in an episode that still receive vouchers by post. Josh and me not a penny.”
Bell, who filed for bankruptcy in 2014, continued by saying that without residues, paying publicists, managers and taxes in California creates a financial burden whose people outside the industry are not aware.
Nickelodeon representatives did not immediately respond to Weekly entertainmentComment request.
