Ryan Murphy reacts to Kennedy family firestorm over his new JFK Jr. show

Ryan Murphy thought it was “very strange” when the nephew of John F. Kennedy Jr. Jack Schlossberg called him during his next show American love story.

The FX Limited series dramatizes the marriage and death of JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, and Schlossberg had previously shared his fears about the program “Enjoy it in a grotesque way”.

Seated with the governor of California on the It’s Gavin Newsom Podcast, Murphy said he was shocked by Schlossberg’s comments on the project.

“I thought it was a strange choice to be crazy about your parent you really don’t remember,” said the Joy Creator, noting that he was injured by criticism.

By referring to Schlossberg’s remark that his family was not consulted, Murphy stressed that there had been 88 films and television programs on Kennedys, none of whom was authorized by the family.

“I never even thought they wanted to do this,” said Murphy. “Ours is based on a very friendly book for the two people with Paul [Anthony Kelly] and Sarah [Pidgeon] play their hearts. “”

In his past comments, Schlossberg expressed his desire that the show “takes seriously what [JFK Jr.] represented in his life, everything he achieved there, and that they give some of the profits [from] What they do at the John F. Kennedy library. “”

Murphy said that the family had not read the script, but stressed that it was not a dismantling. ”

American love story The wedding will follow very publicized between JFK Jr. and Bessette, as well as the stress, the tabloid frenzy, the family drama and the fatal plan accident that defined their union. The series should be released in February 2026.

After Murphy shared a first overview of the production, he received fans of fans on the wardrobe and the hairstyle of his characters.

The producer took the comments seriously, including comments on the hair of actress Sarah Pidgeon, who was a wig, far from the natural blonde locks of Bissette. He said they had made the decision to dye the real pidgeon hair, which was an improvement.

“We rolled up our sleeves and listened to people and corrected it,” he said. “And I like to do that.”
