Jeff Daniels says he ‘didn’t know how to be that dumb’ in ‘Dumb and Dumber’

He has had a long career and accomplished with all kinds of roles, but Jeff Daniels says his role in Mute and more stupid It remains his most “out of the body” experience.

Daniels made the revelation of Nicolle Wallace The best people Podcast on Monday, saying to the host, it was summed up to the fact that he had the impression that he “did not know how to do it”. In the film, he plays one of the two best well -intentioned friends but ultimately waste that participated in a hilarious road trip to return a case full of money, not knowing that it was part of a ransom.

“I didn’t know how to be stupid,” Daniels told Wallace, who started to laugh at his statement. “I did not do it,” he insisted, before remembering the screen test he did with the possible Costar Jim Carrey. “There were a few who were in the final, and so I entered, I remember that Jim just started a scene and he sort of screwed up his hair, and so I have to match this, so I did it, then we bounced.”

It was good and Dandy – he obviously won the role – but when came time to shoot the comedy Farrelly Brothers in Colorado, Daniels says that “it was not well”. “We were tied-it was not going well and we could say,” he said.

And then he had a moment of bulb. “And I said, I know what it is. And I leave, what, please? He has an IQ of 8,” recalls Daniels of his character. “Not 7, not 98. And that had a perfectly logical meaning for me. And then I became the puppy on a leash. Jim would lead … There is a position that occurs, and then they would say, and you would recover your brain.”

Whatever he and Carrey worked. Although he made his debut to mixed criticism in 1994, Mute and more stupid went to 2 247 million gross dollars at the box office and caused a lively television series, a 2003 prequel and a 2014 series, which Daniels is still grateful. “You hope that especially with a comedy, that there is a shelf life on most of them, that the fact that we lasted as Pink pantherPeter Sellers, Preston Sturges Movies last – at least for me – it becomes this kind of “everyone does something stupid at some point”, so it’s the kind of universal hook, and I’m happy, “he said.

However, he was always surprised to see how universal this theme turned out to be. “We knew that when we turned off that 12 -year -old boys, 13 -year -old boys Citizen Kane“, He said.” We were aware of it. We were simply not prepared for the demo which went from 8 to 80. ”

As for what this role means among its emblematic roles? “A part of my plan was to create a range as wide as possible,” said Daniels. Mission accomplished, we would say.
