British and Irish Lions: Blair Kinghorn injury boost as Ireland’s Jamie Osborne called up | Rugby Union News

The British and Irish lions called Jamie Osborne in Ireland as a blanket as they manage the return of Blair Kinghorn in fitness after having received positive news of an analysis on his injured knee.

The back of Scotland Kinghorn underwent a knee injury during the victory of Wednesday 36-24 against the Brumbies act in Canberra which threatened to plunge the options of the Lions coach Andy Farrell in danger after the loss of Elliot Daly.

But Kinghorn’s injury is not as serious as the first fearing and it will remain with the team in Australia, the Irish Osborne joining the camp as a blanket.

“Blair Kinghorn received positive news following a scan on a knee injury suffered against the Brumbies in Canberra on Wednesday evening,” the lions said in a statement. “The Lions medical team will manage their return to training in the coming days.

“Jamie Osborne of Ireland will join the team to provide additional training coverage. Osborne is currently with the Irish team in Portugal and will arrive in Brisbane on Saturday to meet the team.”

When he was asked for an update on Kinghorn at the press conference on Thursday after the Lions team faced an Australia-New Zealand Invitational XV in Adélaïde had been appointed, Farrell said: “Blair is fine, he is not too bad.

“It is actually part of a scan while we are talking about now, so we are waiting for the news on this subject, but the same thing that he is still. As I said yesterday, he is in a good mood, so we will wait to see what the result is.

“I don’t think it’s as bad as what could have been. It was really something harmless, just a rugby accident that was unhappy, so fingers when we return to the hotel that we get good news.”

Owen Farrell was included among the replacements with Henry Pollock restored to the starting XV for the Lions game with an XV Australia and New Zealand Invitational XV in Adelaide on Saturday.

Farrell, who was drafted in the team by his father and chief coach Andy after the injury of Elliot Daly’s arm against the Queensland Reds, will start on the bench of the Adelaide oval.

England attacker Pollock is back in the starting program after having withdrawn from the 21-10 Saturday victory against the Waratahs as a precaution with a tight calf.
