British and Irish Lions: Fifteen new players joining squad ahead of first match against Argentina | Rugby Union News
The half-time star Finn Russell will be one of the 15 players who will join the British and Irish Lions team this week.
After the completion of the Premièreship and United Rugby Championship, the Bath players, Leicester Tigers and Leinster will enter the training camp on Monday before the first match of the tour Friday against Argentina in Dublin.
Finn Russell led Bath to his first first title as a first time since 1996 with their 23-21 victory against Leicester in the final on Saturday. The Scottish, who had excelled in the victory of Bath of Bath, now joins Marcus Smith and end Smith as one of the three most pebbles of the team.
The 15 new players will train with the Lions on Tuesday, but if one of these players presents itself against Argentina later this week, their involvement will probably be limited.
Due to the reduced number of players in the six-day training camp in Quinta, Do Lago in Portugal, head coach Andy Farrell called the leading lines from England Jamie George and Asher Open Open to help with training sessions. They will train for the last time on Monday before returning to their clubs.
A single selected player – the Scottish back -back Blair Kinghorn – has not yet affected the Lions team.
Friday, Kinghorn remains in club service with Toulouse, which participates in the first 14 semi-finals of the French League. He could be absent for an additional week if his team reached the final.
