British GP: Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris rue errors as home duo narrowly miss out on pole position at Silverstone | F1 News

Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton both left jumping errors while the British duo was getting closer to the delivery of a pole-box to Silverstone on Saturday.

Norris de McLaren and Hamilton de Ferrari had the support of the crowd in a fascinating five -way battle for pole which was finally won by Max Verstappen de Red Bull.

Norris had to be satisfied with the third after being preceded by his teammate Oscar Piastri, who led the 15 -point Briton to the top of the world championship.

Norris, through a provocative smile, said Sky Sports F1: “I am (eviscerated so as not to be on the post).

“We weren’t fast enough as a team. Would a perfect turn put us on the post? Yes. But was there probably more in Max’s knees? Yes.”

Oscar Piastri admitted that he had a last confusing round with Lando Norris feeling that they were not fast enough after losing against Max Verstappen on the post.

Norris arrived in Silverstone with a lot of momentum who won in Austria last weekend to reduce Piastri’s advance, but saw his qualification-to-head deficit with his teammate extends to 5-7 with this result.

Norris added: “Small margins. Small errors. A few hundredths here and there can win or lose the game today.

“My final (tower), I would have hoped to find it just a little more. I have not completely attracted the grip in certain corners, and the good balance.”

Hamilton: I had room in the front row to the last corner

Hamilton being in the running for Pole was a surprise, Ferrari enjoying his most competitive projection of the season to date during training.

Their pace seemed to have disappeared because Hamilton was almost knocked out in the first trimester, but they rediscovered a certain speed at the end of the T2 to return to the mixture.

Anthony Davidson of Sky Sports F1 analyzes how Max Verstappen was able to qualify the fastest for the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton was second behind Piastri after the first third trimester of the races, then a tenth at the time of the head of the Australian when he started the final sector of his last round.

However, an error in the turn 16 would cause a significant waste of time, letting it start at the fifth on the grid, with just over two tenths of a second separating the first six.

Hamilton said Sky Sports F1: “Until the last corner, I think I was close to the second on the grid.

“But I had a little understeer at (Tour) 16 and I ended up losing a tenth and a bit.”

Lewis Hamilton says it will be difficult to beat the McLarens or the Red Bulls, but remains hope after the qualifications at the British Grand Prix.

Despite his disappointment not to be as high on the grid as possible, Hamilton was happy to be at least in the heart of the Battle.

“It has generally been a decent weekend so far,” he added.

“I definitely feel more comfortable with the configuration of the car and the balance of the car.”

Russell “ very happy ” with a late wave

The happiest Briton was finally George Russell, who had endured an extremely difficult qualification before making a spectacular gain during his last race to beat Hamilton to fourth.

Pilot Mercedes finished just 0.137 from Verstappen, after being six tenths of the pace after his first third quarter race.

Max Verstappen stormed to take the post while Lewis Hamilton only reached fifth at the British Grand Prix.

The result has maintained the strong form of qualification of Russell, who saw him begin in the top five of everything except one of the 12 races this season, with the exception of Monaco, where he suffered a technical failure.

He said Sky Sports F1: “I am very happy because we have done rhythm all this weekend.

“I did not expect to be in the fight for a good position, especially with the strength of the Ferraris. And we always know that the McLarens will be there.

“In the last lap, we really came to life, and it was Mega Strong. It was a good result.”
