British GP: Lewis Hamilton makes impressive start to set Practice One pace ahead of Lando Norris | F1 News

Lewis Hamilton took an impressive start for his first weekend of British Grand Prix as a Ferrari driver to exceed McLarens during the first practice.

The winner of Nine Time Silverstone Hamilton, who does not finish the podium in Ferrari approaching the half of the season this weekend, found an immediate groove around the circuit at which he experienced more success than any other to establish an initial rhythm of 1: 26.892, exceeding the comrade Brit Lando by 0.023.

This is the first time that Hamilton has been at the top of a training session so far this season.

“The car is quite good in these windy conditions,” said Martin Brundle of Sky Sports F1 in hot, sunny but generally windy Silverstone conditions.

“We saw cars turn to 180 mph. I think Lewis knows how to manage all of this and the Ferrari does it too.

“This knowledge and Hamilton’s understanding obtained here gives it additional confidence.”

Before the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton shared his hopes to claim his first podium with Ferrari in Silverstone

The head of the Oscar Piastri championship finished third in the second McLaren, 0.150 second, with Charles Leclerc fourth in the second Ferrari to underline the encouraging start of Scuderia after the improvement of last week’s performance in Austria.

George Russell was almost 0.3 s in fifth row in the head of Mercedes, while Max Verstappen was only 10th for Red Bull after having again pointed out treatment problems with his RB21 during the opening session of the weekend.

“Incredible,” said Verstappen at the end of the session after fighting his car in a series of corners.

Indeed, Red Bull was exceeded by the two cars of Sister Team Racing Bulls, with Isack Hadjar in sixth and Liam Lawson in eighth.

With Yuki Tsunoda sitting on the opening session, the second Red Bull was motivated by the 17 -year -old British protégé from the company Arvid Lindblad while the driver of the F2 made his P1 debut on the ground.

He finished 14th faster during his start at the highest level, a respectable half second behind the quadruple world champion Verstappen.

In the dramatic moments of the Copse Corner of 180 MPH, Pierre Gasly d’Alpine and Gabriel Bortoleto de Sauber both had high -speed laps through the right -hander, but they managed to finish their sessions.

Gasly turned 360 degrees after getting out of the shape on the exit sidewalk, while Bortoleto started again, touching the interior grass, before the Sauber straightened up and withdrawing towards the stands.
