Chelsea claimed the glory of the World Cup while Cole Palmer inspired a superb 3-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain in New Jersey.

The winners of the Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain, were strong favorites, having beat Real Madrid in the semi-finals, but Chelsea scored three times in a clinical display in the first half to win the title of world champions to follow their victory in the conference league.

Palmer had a helping hand in the three goals, scoring the first of the Malo Gusto Cup with a superb low finish and adding the second with an almost identical strike just eight minutes later.

He then played in the new signature of Joao Pedro, who followed his performance of two goals against Fluminense with a cool finish on Gianluigi Donnarumma as Paris Saint-Germain, who had been sent by Joao Neves for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair, was amazed.

The victory, ahead of US President Donald Trump, sees Chelsea’s bank around 100 million pounds in silver sterling in what was the first edition of the competition in its expanded format at 32 teams.

Paris Saint-Germain entered the match in the hope of finishing a quadruple, six weeks after beating Inter 5-0 in the Champions League final, but could not manage the intensity of Chelsea while inzo Maresca ruthlessly targeted their left flank.

In a master element which included an accumulation of fascinating pre-match, a blow of hunting fly and a long show at halftime which extended the interval at 24 minutes, breaking the regulations of the IFAB, Chelsea looked clearer and more dangerous from the start.

After their gust of goals in the first half, they could have extended their advance at the end of the second when the replacement Liam Delap forced two Donnarumma stops. At the other end, Robert Sanchez has also produced beautiful stops, but the result has never looked in doubt, despite the pre-match ratings strongly promoting Chelsea opponents.

Palmer: We have proven that our skeptics are wrong

Chelsea Cole Palmer said the victory was made sweeter by people who wrote their chances in accumulation.

“Obviously, it is a great feeling,” he said on Dazn. “Even better because, of course, everyone doubted us before the match.

But to go there and fight as we did against a large team, that’s good.

“I like the finals and it happened,” he said about his goal, a year, almost until the day, after having scored in the Euro 2024 final.
