Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn 2: British Boxing Board of Control has no issue with 160lb weight limit for rematch | Boxing News
The British Boxing Board of Control has no problem with the revenge of Chris Eubank Jr against Conor Benn which takes place at 160 pounds.
Eubank Jr seemed to have trouble making the average weight seriously before the first fight with Benn in April.
He also revealed that after the fight, he was hospitalized due to dehydration.
Eubank Jr came fractionally above the weight limit the day before the first fight with Benn, then aroused controversy when he published images on social networks that seemed to show him with the help of a sauna.
The British Boxing Board of Control held an audience on the issue and sentenced to a fine of £ 10,000 Eubank JR for “excessive use of social media”.
Robert Smith, the secretary general of the British Boxing Board of Control, said Sky Sports: “Before a contest, you must declare if you have used a sauna and he said no and it was on a document.
“So obviously everything happened [on social media] But we had all the control weights, etc. [ahead of the fight, so] We were very satisfied that he had done the weight. All of his control weights were correct. “”
Smith explained: “The coach [of Eubank Jr] Said they had no problem with the weight, they used no rapid weight measurements. So, of course, what he put on social networks was not what we had been told and that is therefore why he was sentenced to a fine.
“They are informed that our doctors are very concerned about these things [use of saunas and rapid weight-making measures]. They should be aware of it and therefore it is a complete contradiction of what he had already told us and what we had. This is why the fine was born. “”
Smith added: “He only failed weight because he was 40 minutes late for weighing.
“To be fair, he was overweight to die from Moucheron. If he had been 10 minutes earlier, he would have succeeded.
“He received a severe reprimand for the implementation of the weighing late and overweight.”
Eubank’s revenge match with Benn was announced for September 20 and should take place under the same stipulations as the first fight – at the average weight with a rehydration clause forcing them not to exceed 10 pounds compared to the limit of 160 lb in the morning of the fight.
The council has no problem with the revenge match for 160 pounds.
“No. It is a big average weight and a small super-point.
The director body will not take measures to prevent the taxation of the rehydration clause. IBF world title fights, for example, have a similar condition for an additional weighing on the day of combat.
“This corresponds to the IBF, they have a sliding scale on the weights. [In this case] It is established by the promoters, an agreement with the promoters and the parties, “said Smith.
“Both were in place without problem [for the first fight]. So I have no problem with that. It is not something in our rules, it is an agreement between the parties. If that’s what they want to do, very good.
“We don’t do it. IBF does it, [this] was not an IBF championship, it was part of the promotional agreement, a private agreement. We are very satisfied with this. “”
EUBANK JR should pay its fine, which goes to the charitable account of the board of directors, to benefit from a British license in Box.
Smith noted: “They are both medically suspended at the moment because it was such a difficult fight. They must be medically eliminated in the box anyway. But it is a normal procedure.
“Until we are satisfied that his license is in order, then he will obviously have a license.”
