Chris Eubank Jr’s rematch with Conor Benn has same weight ‘terms’ as first fight, says promoter Eddie Hearn | Boxing News
The promoter Eddie Hearn expects Chris Eubank Jr to receive the same weight restrictions for the revenge match against Conor Benn.
British rivals should share the ring in London on September 20 after Eubank Jr won an exciting victory at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium during their first fight in April.
Eubank Jr was sentenced to a fine after failing to make the limit of the average weight for the fight, but managed to weigh inside the rehydration limit of 170 pounds the next morning.
“We have our contract which is the same terms as the first fight, so we expect it to be really honored and we will see,” said Hearn, who promotes Benn.
“It is not really one for us. I suppose that it is one for the other team, but they signed a contract. Everyone knew the conditions and we will see.”
The promoter of Eubank Jr, Ben Shalom, suggested that the revenge match should be superior to the average weight brand of 160 lb.
“The rehydration clause is probably less dangerous than the limit of 160 LB at this stage of its career,” said Shalom Sky Sports last month.
“This is where it is probably the biggest challenge. As an organizers of the event, everyone must be reasonable as to the way we approach the second fight. It is probably that of the event, all discussions on weight. And therefore I am sure that everyone will be reasonable.”
‘Benn is smoking’
EUBANK JR inflicted the first defeat on Benn’s professional file after having sealed a unanimous victory of the decision.
But Hearn thinks that Benn, who had not fought for more than a year before the fight, can take revenge.
“It’s going to be a huge night,” said Hearn.
“For me, all you will see is the round 13 from the start. These two will never fight otherwise. They will be held in the middle of the ring and they will give you entertainment, blood and guts, each time.
“The first fight was one of the greatest battles we have ever seen. To create a moment and a fight like that, accumulation, story, dads, everything could not be better. You ask people to say:” Do they need to start again? “Yeah, because I want to see him again.
“You have just had one of the best fights that we have never assisted in a ring. Look at it again. I think it will be a better fight this time. I believe with the activity now of Conor Benn, we can win this fight and that’s what we want.
“We don’t just want to start again, we want to win. Conor Benn smokes that he lost. He lost his” 0 “and he wants it and that is why he is going to shoot on September 20.”
