Deontay Wilder scores stoppage knockout of Tyrrell Herndon for first win in three years

Deontay Wilder is back in the Victories column. After losing consecutive fighting and four of the five, the former WBC heavyweight champion returned to the ring in Wichita, Kansas, to stop Tyrrell Herndon in the seventh round on Friday.

Wilder was much more aggressive in the first round than against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, pushing forward behind the blow. Herndon did little beyond the rotation and sought to avoid contact, which he did well, avoiding most of Wilder’s fire.

Wilder continued to put pressure on the second round and marked his first Knockdown with a left hook to be threatened who caught herndon unbalanced and sent him to trip on the canvas. Not particularly injured by the shot, Herndon survived around.

As the tours passed, Herndon tried to find small spots to unload big punches, and when he launched, Wilder looked a little uncomfortable. But the biggest story was that Wilder, even showing more aggressiveness than his recent fights, did not hurt Herndon with his attack.

This changed the turn 6, when Wilder increased the attack even more, cursing Herndon along the perimeter and launching heavy shots until the referee intervened while Herndon was held by the strings. Despite the second Knockdown of the fight, Herndon again managed to survive the Tour and continue.

In turn 7, Wilder continued to try to push for the finish when he landed a right right hand which slightly stumbled Herndon and the referee jumped to stop the fight. The judgment was at best questionable, but it seemed unlikely that Herndon had a way to victory in the fight when the referee intervened.

The official time of the judgment was 2:16 a.m. Tour 7.

“It was great. Thank you to my opponent, guy, you’re a hard to cook,” said Wilder after the fight. “I appreciate the work. … I had a lot, I was challenged for a long time to get back together, and it was a long road for me. I’m just happy to be back in the ring, you know. It’s a new start for me.”

Before the fight, promoter Wilder Nelson Lopez Jr. said it was the first fight of a three -fighting plan before trying to fight with the double unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Wilder’s performance does not seem to bring him closer to this goal. Previously, in his career, Herndon was arrested by Efe Ajagba in a tour in the professional beginnings of Ajagba, lost by the disqualification against Brandon Glanton and was also arrested in two rounds by Richard Torrez Jr., he was also arrested in the first round by Corey Barlow, who holds a record of 3-7-2.

This wilderness, even showing increased assault, could not reproduce these results, although it is one of the heaviest pucckers in the history of boxing could worry about to worry about the future of his career.
