The star of England, Beth Mead, opened how “disappointing” he was to see Mary Earps, Fran Kirby and Millie Bright withdraw from Euro 2025, but insisted that she was excited for a new era of Lioness to start.

Earps and Kirby, two key personalities from the team who won Euro 2022, retired in the preparation of Sarina Wiegman announcing her team of 23 players for the next tournament in Switzerland.

Bright became unavailable for the selection one day after Kirby announced his retirement, saying that she was not “able to give 100% mentally or physically” before Chelsea confirmed that she had undergone a minor surgical intervention in the knee in the days that followed.

England will face Jamaica in their last preparation match before the launch of its tournament against France on July 5.

Talk to Sky Sports News In St George’s Park, Mead opened up on the absences of Earps, Bright and Kirby, where the arsenal striker admitted that she hoped to see Bright making a return to the lionesses in the future.

“I have been on the team for a long time. I have also known girls for a long time, and you never know what anyone thinks or where they are in their careers or how they feel,” said Mead.

“When the girls announced their retirement and could not come to the camp, obviously, it is disappointing.

“These are great characters for the team. But we completely respect the decision, the decision they made and what a career all these players have had.

“Fran and Mary and, hopefully, Millie will be able to recover well, and we can get our backs for us again on England.”

England suffered a 2-1 defeat in his first game after Earps announced his retirement, Kirby being left from the day team for the match before informing her teammates that she retired with an immediate effect after the match.

In the absence of the three key characters, Wiegman will now count strongly on the talents of Hannah Hampton, the goalkeeper of the first choice of the team currently, as well as on Aggie Beever-Jones, Jessica Park And Grace Clinton.
