England keep faith with Ollie Pope for first India Test as Jacob Bethell misses out; Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse return | Cricket News
England has kept the faith with Ollie Pope, omitted Jacob Bethell and recalled the sewing quisters Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse for the first test against India in Headingley.
The Pope has been kept at n ° 3 for the Leeds test, Live on Sky Sports From Friday (first ball of 11 a.m.), after marked 171 in the Zimbabwe flashes in Trent Bridge in May.
Bethell missed this match when he was in IPL service for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but an impressive start for his career in England had led him to be immediately restored.
The 21-year-old seemed assured by scoring three fifty on position No. 3 in New Zealand during the winter and also shone in recent white ball games against the Antilles, especially with an 82-ball 82 in the first international international.
Bethell’s left arm rotation may also have been a useful option with hot temperatures likely to produce dry land, but vice-captain Pope received the head sign.
The opener Zak Crawley, another player than Bethell could have been dislodged, will associate with Ben Duckett at the top of order with the only changes to come in the attack of rhythm.
Woakes and Carse come back as Cook and the injured Atkinson abandon
The Woakes and Carse, who missed the Zimbabwe test with ankle and toe problems respectively, replace Sam Cook and the Gus Atkinson injured by Carse to play his first home test after 27 counters through five games in Pakistan and New Zealand this winter.
Atkinson is always recovering from a problem with the hamstrings he supported against Zimbabwe while Cook is left out after an indifferent test in which he only took the counter.
Woakes and Carse – who said on Wednesday that there had been discussions on him by taking the new ball in the absence of Atkinson – will join Josh Tongue and Captain Ben Stokes in the fast tilting group, with Shoaib Bashir as Spinner.
Jamie Overton, the versatile Bowling Pace, is the other member of the initial team of 14 players, with Bethell and Cook, to miss the selection of the opening of the series.
The Headingley test begins a huge period for England with the five -game game series against Shubman Gill’s men followed by an Ashes in Australia tour, starting at the Optus stadium in Perth on November 21.
The second test in India is in Edgbaston from July 2 before other games in Lord’s (July 10), Emirates Old Trafford (from July 23) and the Kia Oval (July 31), each match live on Sky Sports.
