England vs India: Jofra Archer showing ‘effortless pace’ as he works towards Test comeback, says Ben Stokes | Cricket News

The “effortless rhythm” of Jofra Archer in the Nets was an “alarm clock” for the captain of England Ben Stokes while the quick launcher works towards a trial return he always wanted.

Archer is back with the England camp after four years of the test match due to injuries in the elbow and back, but will not play in the second match of the series against India, in Edgbaston Live on Sky Sports From Wednesday (start of 11 a.m.), with unchanged hosts.

The 30 -year -old, who could make his long -awaited return during the third test at Lord’s from July 10, will remain with England this week rather than going back to the county championship action with Sussex, what Stokes says is vital for his reinstatement.

Michael Atherton, Nasser Hussain and Mark Wood discuss the exclusion of Archer from the England team for the second test against India

Archer missed training on Monday due to a family emergency but returned to the group one day later.

Stokes – whose team has successfully completed 371, their second highest level of tests, to win the series opening in Headingley last Tuesday – said about Archer: “I have been in constant communication with him since his injury problems hit him and he was so determined to recover the test cricket and to be available for the selection.

“ When Archer has the ball in his hand, the atmosphere changes ”

“I think it is important that Jof is in the group this week, because the last time he was in a test locker room was under another diet.

“I hope that we will see him playing a role in this series in the future, so the time spent with other individuals is very important, not only performance on the ground.

“Red ball, white ball, we all know that he is an incredibly gifted cricket player.

Chris Woakes feels that his compatriot Semeser Archer could still have his best years before him after a horror time with an injury

“When he goes out for England and has the ball in his hand, the whole atmosphere of the game changes whatever the situation.

“Facing him in the nets, he made the ball very well swayed. It was an effortless rhythm. It’s been a while since I faced him, so it was a awakening for me.”

Stokes in good place with the bowling after having exhausted the first test

Stokes also talked about his own bowling alley, after having recorded 5-113 35-overtime figures in the victory in Headingley, in what was just his second match since his return from an injury to the hamstrings suffered in the victory of the 2-1 series in New Zealand at the end of last year.

The skipper added: “I did not give anything to the world three days after this match! I was a shadow of my normal self, but it shows how a five -day test withdraws from you.

“I felt very well in the game – I had done everything that could not have to worry about anything outside of what you are normally concerned.

“I was able to save spells throughout the day and I thought I had managed to maintain my pace, which I wanted to focus on.

“The ball was well released, I played for 35 letters, so it was a good week last week. I hope I could produce something similar.”

“Bashir buzzing to spend time with Moeen”

With the delayed archer’s trial of at least one more match, Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue will join Stokes in the rhythm attack while England seeks to take a 2-0 lead.

Shoaib Bashir remains the front line spinner, having worked with a man who played this role for England, Moeen Ali, before the Birmingham test.

The former captain of England and the current Lions head coach Andrew Flintoff was also with England this week.

Stokes said: “Bash burst to spend time with Moeen. The more people have people in the locker room like that, it’s great for this team.

“It’s amazing how many good conversations you can have in a social environment. It should not be in a conference room or around a table. Natural conversations that come out of nothing are so invaluable.”
