Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur slams Italian media over treatment of team following speculation over his future | F1 News
Ferrari’s boss, Frederic Vasseur, says that the elements of the Italian media reports “hurt his team” and is a factor helping to prevent them from winning championships.
Following an extremely disappointing start of a campaign in 2025 during which Ferrari was to face the titles after having signed Lewis Hamilton to partner Charles Leclerc, reports in Italy earlier this week said that Vasseur’s position was threatened.
Asked about speculation Friday at the Canadian Grand Prix, Vasseur said he had been able to face the situation, but suggested “disrespectful” and “very hard” speculation that others working under him in Ferrari destabilized the team.
Vasseur said: “It is some of the Italian media, not all Italian media. It is not for myself because I can manage, it is more the people of the team. Using their names like this is disrespectful towards them and their family.
“I do not understand the target. Maybe it is to give **** to the team. In this case, I do not see the point. Perhaps for them (publications) it is the only way to exist. This is probably more reason.
“But it always hurts the team. At one point, it’s a lack of concentration. When you fight for the championship, every detail makes a difference.
“From the start of the weekend, we just talked about this. If it is their goal of putting the team in this situation, they have achieved their goal.
“This is not how we can win a championship, at least not with this kind of journalist around us.
“To be the director of the team, I knew when I took the position that you are exposed. It’s quite easy to manage. It’s more for the people of the team. They work very hard.
“To decide one day” it will be replaced, it is useless “. Honestly, it is very hard. These journalists must consider that these people have family. It is completely disrespectful.”
‘We did not do a good job’
Ferrari was largely on an ascending trajectory since Vasseur succeeded Mattia Binotto in early 2023, the Italian missing in McLaren on the title of manufacturers last season by only 14 points.
A strong end until 2024, as well as the successful signature of seven times Hamilton world champion to associate Leclerc, raised the hopes of a first triumph of manufacturers since 2008, or a first pilot title since the victory of Kimi Raikkonen in 2007.
Instead, Ferrari has not yet won a Grand Prix this season, while Leclerc claimed his three podiums, leaving the team to start for second place with Mercedes and Red Bull.
Vasseur said: “The initial objective was to fight for the championship. But I think it’s true for us, Mercedes, Red Bull and McLaren, we are all in the mood to fight for the championship at the start of the season.
“If you compare yourself to the wait for this, McLaren is a great step compared to everyone and we have not done a good job on our side in the first two races.”
With the suggestions that Vasseur is under pressure, reports from Italy also said that Leclerc is considering his future when the Mongasque was pursuing a first title.
Vasseur said: “Charles has a long -term contract with us. Each interview from the start of the season, he says he wants to stay with Ferrari, he wants to win with Ferrari, his future is with Ferrari.
“But every Monday, we have an article saying that” Charles will go next year “.
“At one point, I don’t know what we have to do. I’m sorry and I can’t repeat it every weekend, the same things. This is what is.
“Now, with the with Lewis and Charles, I think we have a good relationship. We have a clear target. We know that we have to work and we know that we have to push.
“The atmosphere in the team is very good. This is the basis if you want to recover and win. But everything is there. Everything is on the table at a good job and absolutely, we work well.”
