Fever’s DeWanna Bonner reportedly wants out of Indiana: What to know as veteran misses fifth straight game
Indiana fever will be without an attacker veteran Dewanna Bonner for a fifth consecutive match on Tuesday when they face the Seattle storm. Bonner, who is absent for personal reasons, has not played since June 10 and we do not know when she returns to action.
According to Annie Costabile with a front office, it is possible that we saw the last of Bonner in a fever uniform. According to Costabile, Bonner has “no interest” in returning to fever. His favorite landing places, via trade or a takeover, are the Phoenix Mercury – where his fiancée, Alyssa Thomas, plays – or the dream of Atlanta.
“I did not have a lot of conversations with her recently, really focused on the team we have here,” said fever coach Stephanie White before taking the storm.
The fever hopes to have a sequence of two consecutive defeats Tuesday against the Red Storm, winner of six of their last seven. While they prepare to take the ground without going once again, here is everything we know about the situation.
The signing of the key off -season does not rush
The fever had two main goals during the offseason: add experienced players and improve their defense. By signing Bonner – the leader of all time in the league in appearances in the playoffs with 87 and a varied and versatile defender – they hoped to make both.
So far, however, this decision has not expressed their hoping way. Bonner was withdrawn from the starting program after three games and scored twice twice in nine appearances. It has an average of 7.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in a 34.5% career in the field.
In particular, Bonner has by far the worst on-off differential of the team. The fever has a net note of less than 10.2 in its 192 minutes on the ground and a clear note more than 5.1 in the 328 minutes that it was not there. To be fair, she spent a lot of time on the ground without Caitlin Clark, which will distort these figures. Despite this, it was largely ineffective, especially at the end of the offensive.
The fever gave to boon an almost max contract with the expectation that it would play a major role by passing the team to the upper level as a legitimate threat of the playoffs. Between his poor game and the prolonged absence, they have obtained almost nothing from him on the field.
Miss their “strongest voice”
Even if Bonner has not played well, it has always been an important figure in the locker rooms of fever. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston were not even 10 years old when Bonner made her professional debut in 2009. She won two championships, appeared in more playoff matches than anyone in the history of the WNBA and played with many hall of Famers through several franchises. Along the way, Bonner saw everything there is to see in this league.
This kind of experience is invaluable for a team with a young nucleus, and it had an immediate impact on the field.
“She has experienced a lot of different things, whether teammates – playing with some of the best in the world – franchises, coaches,” said White during the training camp. “Having her knowledge and having her personality as a mom is so important because she understands how to keep you responsible, but she understands how to love you too.”
“The strongest voice in our wardrobe is hers,” said Clark after Bonner moved to third place on the League marking list in their first season game. “And it’s fun to have been around her for about a month, just to learn from her and do everything.”
The fever is 2-2 in the absence of a boner, and the two defeats are the result of two-digit tracks on the road. His leadership could certainly have been useful in these situations.
Ramp
Neither Bonon nor the fever have disclosed any detail on his absence, and they should not either. But in the absence of concrete information, speculation filled the void. Make a quick analysis of social media and you will not see a shortage of rumors:
- “Could Bonner retire?” Still possible since it is about to be 38 years old in August, but there is no reason to believe that this is the case for the moment.
- “She removed the fever from her Instagram biography?” The fever is not currently mentioned there, but it is not clear if they were first. One of his pinned messages presents it in fever uniform.
- “Has his individual banner been removed from Gainbridge Fieldhouse?” No. It was during the last home game for the Sun on June 17.
The rumor mill accelerated until Tuesday with the Costabile report that Bonner wants to get out of Indianapolis, and that the adjustment was “extinct” from the start. The removal of Bonner of the starting programming is apparently a key factor in the devolved relationship between the two sides.
What happens next?
The answer depends on the duration of the duration of the Bonner saga.
The fever will not want to lose Bonner for nothing, but a business will be difficult to achieve, especially if it dictates where it wants to play. Bonner earns $ 200,000, which is a great salary for mercury or dream, its two favorite destinations, to acquire given their wage ceiling situations. There is also no guarantee that one or the other team wishes to abandon anything for a player who seems to be on his last legs.
If no profession materializes, the fever could eventually give up Bonner because his contract is not protected. All they would be absent is his early salary, and they would earn a place and the ceiling space to potentially sign two players (they entered the season with only 11 players, one below the limit of 12).
If Bonner’s situation lights up, things would become interesting. The fever is currently back in full strength outside of Bonner, but that will change shortly when Damiris Dantas will leave to join the Brazilian national team for the Fiba Americup action later this month. This tournament will take place from June 28 to July 6 in Chile, and Dantas will miss at least five games, including the Commissioner’s Cup championship.
If Bonner is still in limbo as Dantas leaves, the fever will be extremely in digital disadvantage in the front area and up to nine available players. As most fans learned it from the fever injury crisis earlier in the season, when a team falls below 10 healthy and available players, they have an exception of emergency difficulty. It is not clear if it would apply if the absence of Bonner essentially becomes a holdout.
Earlier in the season, the fever used an exception of emergency difficulties to sign the old choice of aari McDonald lottery, which had a great race with the team. According to the rules of the exception, the player signed with him must be published as soon as the team again has 10 unrepected players available, and as such McDonald is no longer with fever.
If Bonner remains away while Dantas is abroad, fever could potentially sign another player temporarily via an exception of emergency difficulties. McDonald remains without a team and would be an option, but if Bonner and Dantas are both released, the fever would probably target a front zone option.
