George Ford: England fly-half ‘unbelievably proud’ ahead of 100th cap and Argentina challenge | Rugby Union News

George Ford says that it is “incredibly proud” to be about to pick up his 100th Cap of England before facing Argentina on Saturday, live Sky Sports.

Steve Barthwick England will face the Pumas de la Plata in the first of the two tests, Ford was currently seated on 99 caps.

Talk to Sky SportsFord said: “Obviously, it will be an incredibly proud moment for me and my family if it happens. Jud for England was a dream when I grew when I was a child.

“You never really think, even when you play once, you will get closer to 100. I look forward to it, I am delighted to play in this team. I think the essential for us is to make sure that we have a great week and, hope it, a successful game on weekends.

“We understand the challenge that awaits us. Argentina is obviously in great shape, it is a big team against which to play and we are far from home.

“It is a fairly hostile environment when you come here, but it’s incredible to play. The plan for us is to be as well prepared as possible and impose our game plan and get an excellent result.”

While England is preparing in South America, 13 of Ford’s international teammates are with the British and Irish lions during their tour in Australia.

Ford – Who has never toured like a lion despite a career decorated with England – says he looked, but not with desire, rather simply with interest.

“The boys have watched the Lions on television until now. This is obviously a great interest in us, we have a charge of Guys from England there that we support and want the best for them.

“It will be intriguing to watch the matches against Australia, but after having said that we also have enough on our plate here to make sure that we are ready for the two tests against Argentina.

“I have been in contact with a few, obviously, my club teammates Luke Cowan-Dickie and Tom Curry. They appreciate it, I think they are happy to be in Australia now to operate the tour. They are obviously trying to put their best cases with the playing time you get.

“It is not something for which I play the game, really, recognition. I play the game to get respect for my own teammates, my coaches and the team in which I play.

“What I am proud of is to be as coherent as possible, to be the best person to try to win the weekend. If we do this, then I did my job. Rather that the individual stuff, it is to see how many times we have been part of a winning team, that is what I will remember when I end my career.

“I always feel incredibly honored and privileged to represent England whenever I am the chance to do so. Whatever the situation, whether there is a tour of the lions next to it or not, it is always the same feeling representing England.

“We play Argentina this weekend and we are doing our best to make sure that it is a successful moment for us too, that’s why we are all here. We are all proud to do it.”
