The star of the Giants of San Francisco, Rafael Devers, went without success on Friday in his first match against his former team, the Red Sox in Boston. Devers of course exchanged Red Sox to the Giants last Sunday as part of an exchange of five players who included the Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks launchers and the external prospect James Tibbs. Devers was the only groups to appear in a 7-5 victory in Boston on Friday (box score).

Devers, third and serving as a designated striker, went 0 for 5 with two outdoor outs, two piloting outs (including one to a deep left -back field which had an average of 0.370s and would have been a Home Run in five parks, according to Statcast calculations), and a ninth round.

Devers, 28, entered Friday evening 3 for his first 11 with the Giants. During his 73 previous games with the Red Sox, he had struck .272 / .401 / .504 with 15 circuits. The resulting 152 OPS + would represent a new career summit if it could keep it the rest of the path.

As you would expect, given the opponent, Devers asked a lot of questions before the match on his reflections on his teams, new and old. “It’s been a long time,” he said before the match via the interpreter Erwin Higueros. “I don’t know how to explain it. Yes, I feel happy. I feel relaxed now.”

In particular, Devers also admitted that he would have taken the first base if the Red Sox had asked him to play the post in the spring. His fall with Boston’s front office seemed to begin when he resisted going from the third goal after the signing of Alex Bregman. Devers finally agreed, although he refused to take the cold corner after Triston Casas suffered an injury at the end of the season in May.

After trade, Devers said he was ready to play anywhere for the giants. Although this includes the first goal, he should not make his debut there during this series.

The Red Sox and the Giants will continue their series on Saturday before finishing it on Sunday.
