‘Goonies’ star Martha Plimpton reflects on ‘first love’ River Phoenix


Martha Plpton talked about her relationship with the “First Love” river Phoenix, which, according to her, was a “huge part” of her years of training.

“We were the first love of the other,” said Plpton. “This relationship never really disappears. You can never leave something like that. It’s just too important and also, like, I mean. I mean, it is you who you are, especially in these really formative years. I mean, it’s a large part of whom I am.”

Phoenix died in 1993 of a drug overdose outside the vipers room in Los Angeles. He was 23 years old.

Plpton said it was difficult for Phoenix to manage his drug addiction and that he was unable to get the help he needed before dying.

“I think he would have been an incredible defender of sobriety and people struggling with dependence,” said Plpton in tears. “Unfortunately, it just got him before he had a chance to do that. But yes, I miss every day.”
