Jockey Oisin Murphy pleads guilty to drink-driving offence at Reading Magistrates’ Court | Racing News

Multiple champion Jockey Oisin Murphy pleaded guilty when reading the magistrate court to a drink offense after crushing his car in a tree.

He was charged by a postal request on June 19 after driving his mercedes gray a class out of the road and in a tree in Hermitage, Berkshire, around 12:05 pm on April 27.

He had a passenger with him at the time, who was the owner of the car, the court learned. They were both transported to hospital after the accident.

Murphy was then released to take a blood test in a police station around 7 a.m., which showed a 66 mg for 100 milliliters of breath.

This meant that he was “just shy twice above the driving limit of drinks” at the time of driving, said prosecutor Richard Atkins in court.

Sporting a dark blue suit, a white shirt and a tie, Murphy spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address before entering his guilt.

Judge Sam Goozee, convicted, told Murphy: “You are lucky that neither you, your passenger or the public were injured by your actions.

“I balance this with the remorse you have shown for your actions.

“You have also admitted that you dropped the public because of your actions and your colleagues in the race world.”

Murphy’s defense lawyer, Alex Di Francesco, offered the tribunal apologies on behalf of his client.

Mr. Di Francesco said: “He wants to apologize, first to his passenger, to the public and other road users … and he wants to apologize to those he works alongside.”

The day he was officially charged was Thursday of the Royal Ascot Week, when he set up a double graciousness of Araban Story and never so courageous. He ended the mistress meeting with five winners in total.

Murphy should be in action in Saratoga on Friday evening, where it is reserved to associate New Century in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes, before returning from America in time to associate with the court of the winner of 2000 Guineas in Coral-Eclipse on Saturday in Sandown.

In addition to its fine, Murphy must pay an additional £ 2,000 and £ 85 in fresh. The figures were calculated on the basis of its annual profits, which the court heard in the region of £ 250,000 per year, in addition to a weekly salary of £ 1,250.

Murphy will also have to take a drink awareness course before August 13, 2026 and may reapply a driving license by November of next year.

The British Horseracing Authority has confirmed that Murphy is free to continue rolling, although the director has expressed a “disappointment” in its conduct and plans to place new conditions on its license.

A spokesman said: “Everyone at the BHA, like all involved in our sport, is disappointed today having learned the details of the offense to which Oisin Murphy pleaded guilty.

“This is a very serious offense which, during its creation, saw Mr. Murphy endangers not only his own security, but that of his passenger and all the other people traveling on the roads at the same time as him that night.

“His conduct fell away from the standard we expect from all approved people, in whom we trust that they will represent our sport at best their capacities, confirming our collective reputation and guaranteeing that the race is a safe place for all.

“In light of Mr. Murphy’s guilt of guilt and the information revealed to the court today, we will work on the addition of new conditions on his license which could be referred to the Licensing Committee for their consideration. As has been the case in recent weeks, Mr. Murphy remains free to take up his driving functions.

“We are updating on this process in due time and will not make any other comments for the moment.”
