Josh Charnley: Leigh Leopards winger reveals he wants to finish rugby league career at Wigan Warriors | Rugby League News
Josh Charnley revealed that he wanted to finish his career in the Rugby League at Wigan Warriors as he targets the record for the Super League of all time.
Charnley scored his 250th and 251s in testing in Leigh Leopards’ victory against Hull Kr on Saturday to go nine behind the record for record Ryan Hall.
The 34 -year -old man missed the first part of the season due to a knee injury which required surgery but recently returned to the first action of the team on the wing after an injury to Darnell McIntosh.
“I just want to stay in Super League. I had in my goals for five years that I want to be the top scorer in Super League and I am quite close to that,” said Charnley, who has no contract for 2026, in the last episode SKy Sports’ The Banc With Jenna and Jon Podcast.
“I haven’t played a lot of games this year and I’m not in the shop window. I’m going to go anywhere. I’m not traveling. I need playing time and I always think I’m two years old.”
Charnley began his career at Wigan Warriors where he won two major finals and was the top scorer in the League.
The winger revealed that Leigh blocked the possible possibilities for him to lend Salford Red Devils and Oldham on loan, but his intention is to return to Wigan.
“”[I want] Finally in Wigan. I am so close to their assessment of schooling and “tide” [Liam Marshall] I just surpassed for most club tests there, so there is another goal there, “he said.
“Wigan gave me the opportunity to be in this match and it would be good to finish there if I could.”
Charnley: an injury put me in an unknown territory
After 18 laps, Leigh is third in the Super League Table and only five points behind Hull Kr and Charnley’s Brace on Saturday will offer the head coach Adrian Lam.
Charnley, who works as a mason during her days off, says that his injury earlier this year was “up there” with one of the most difficult parts of his career.
“I am very rarely injured and I brought my meniscus out at the start of the year. It was a strange injury that I obtained,” he said.
“I was heating myself up and my knee came out, I couldn’t walk and I had to have an operation. I was quite blessed during my career that I did not have many injuries and surgeries. Just frustrating. Territory unknown for me.
“I have done everything I can, an additional cross training and saw someone in a wellness center, to try to come back.
“I came back in five weeks from my operation when he should have been eight to 10 to give me a better opportunity to obtain an agreement.”
