Julie Chen Moonves names top 25 ‘Big Brother’ moments from first 25 years

July 5, 2000 – exactly 25 years ago today – a cultural oddity was unleashed on the public as a whole. Come hot in the heels of the phenomenon of instant pop culture that was Survivorwho created a month before, Big brother was to be the next CBS reality competition franchise.

Instead, the first season of the series that locked the strangers in a house together until a single one was left to assert that the price of $ 500,000 was an almost instant disaster in the grip of a drama-addverse public vote, to studio segments worthy of yawning with guests such as the online advisor AOL Regina Lewis, and random time sheets Words of the show. (I strongly recommend that you relive these confusing decisions and more here.)

But instead of canceling the series after a regrettable first season, the network surprised everyone by completely turning the show and bringing it back for a season 2 to do or a break. And the rest is history. Admittedly, a story filled with a clam that likes Showtune called Otev and a sassy and lively robot entitled The Zingbot… but a story nevertheless.
