Katie Taylor completes Amanda Serrano trilogy as Savannah Marshall suffers upset loss to Shadasia Green | Boxing News

Katie Taylor beat Amanda Serrano with a unanimous decision to defend the undisputed super-light championship and make a clean scanning of three victories in their trilogy.

After their confrontation of 10 laps for WBO, WBC, IBF and WBA 140LB titles at Madison Square Garden, Taylor was declared victorious by scores of 97-93 on two of the judges’ cards, while the third even had them at 95-95.

It was the third close competition between the two, after Taylor won a shared decision during their first fight and a close unanimous victory in the second.

Back at Madison Square Garden, the site of their first fight, Taylor improved his record at 25-1 (6) in a fight that was perhaps not as exciting as their first two, but which was also almost too close to call.

Serrano, 47-4-1 (31), never really injured Taylor on this occasion, which should be the final combat of the pair.

It was a festive atmosphere in front of another closed window crowds of more than 19,000 divisions between Irish and Puerto Rican fans with the historic arena welcoming its first card of all women. Serrano was very smiling on a happy ring walk accompanied by the dancers of Knicks City.

There were no significant punches in the first round. In the third, they exchanged gunshots and both landed gusts. But Serrano seemed to fight more carefully than she had already done it against Taylor, keeping his distance, perhaps suspicious of the faced heads that had left his cup in their second fight.

Taylor sought to control the center of the ring and won good couples by attracting Serrano to her.

Several rounds could have been able to go in both directions while the fight was built at a tense point, Serrano manifesting himself more and forcing Taylor in a corner in the fifth round, but the champion made his way.

Taylor was marked under the right eye in the eighth, but was ahead of the last two laps to secure the verdict.

Excluding a fourth meeting with the Porto Rican, Taylor was knowing if she would continue to fight.

“I don’t know, I don’t want to fight Amanda Serrano again. She strikes too hard,” she said after the fight.

“I have a huge ton of respect for Amanda, it’s such a warrior. It’s a pleasure to share a ring with her.

“We have made the story three times. We are history manufacturers forever.

“I thought I boxed very intelligent, she couldn’t catch me tonight. But it’s still close to Amanda.”

Serrano reflected that she had tried to work “more intelligently not tough” this time against Taylor.

“We tried to stay with the long punches and one,” she said, “and it was simply not enough.”

Savannah Marshall suffered a shock defeat when she returned to boxing. After a stay in MMA, Marshall, formerly undisputed mid-world weight champion, lost to Shadasia Green in a unification of the IBF and WBO title at 168 pounds.

The decision was divided. A judge awarded the 96-93 fight in Marshall, but the America’s Green received the Verdict 95-94 and 96-93 by the other judges despite a punctual deduction for the outfit.

Ellie Scotney put an end to the six-year reign of Mexican Yamileth Mercado as world champion of super-bustams with a complete unanimous verdict.

The 27-year-old Catford man added the WBC title to his IBF and WBO crowns with a 100-90, 98-82 and 982 victory.

England Chantelle Cameron, a former two -weight world champion, had a comfortable unanimous point decision on Jessica Camara, while Ramla Ali returned to the ring after a year with a tighter verdict on Lila Furtado.

American Alycia Baumgardner has retained its undisputed superpume weight with a unanimous decision on Jennifer Miranda from Spain.
