Lando Norris says he is ‘working on’ becoming Britain’s best F1 driver but pays tribute to Lewis Hamilton | F1 News
Lando Norris admitted that he was not sure if he was currently the best driver of Formula 1 in Great Britain, but says that he “works” on the creation of his status as the best of the nation.
Norris is one of the four British, with Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Oliver Bearman, who will benefit from home support at the British Grand Prix this weekend.
The 25 -year -old, who drags his teammate McLaren Oscar Piastri 15 points at the top of the ranking while they are both pursuing a first pilot title, is comfortably clear of Russell in fourth and Hamilton in sixth.
Despite his strong position, Norris admitted that seven times Hamilton world champion, who won a record of 105 F1 races, would probably be ahead of him in the estimates of many people.
Norris said: “I have the best chance of winning the race, I would say, and of course the one that is most likely for the championship this season.
“Am I British number one?” I don’t know. I don’t know how much you take the story into account.
“I think that if you always take the story, then Lewis is quite convincing at the top. Many more victories and posts and championships than anyone, really gathered.
“Maybe I’m the favorite of the weekend from a British point of view, but I don’t know. This is your [the media’s] Job to put the figures on people, not mine.
“It would be good. This is my goal. It is the same thing as with any sportsman in the series they are, tennis, golf.

“ Silverstone’s victory would prevail over the triumph of Monaco ‘
Three victories of this season won the total of Norris career victories at seven, with the most special to date – to the eyes – to come to the Monaco Grand Prix in May.
Norris did not seem if they would be if he would have attended his pre-monaco assertion that he would exchange all his racing victories (five at the time) for a first victory in Silverstone.
He said: “I think it is difficult to put something above Monaco, but I said before Monaco that if I could win something, if I could exchange all the racing victories for one, it would be for a Silverstone victory. So it’s a plan.
“Obviously, a lot of work, a lot to do before that, but Monaco is special.
“I think they will be very different, for different reasons. Monaco is only history, what it means for everyone and the people who won it.
“Silverstone is because it’s my home race, and British fans and Lando fans, all these guys.
“So, different reasons, but it will be the one who probably puts the biggest smile on my face, bigger than Monaco, and it is the one who since I was a child and since I started to look at Formula 1 that I wanted to win the most.”
Norris hoping for a “home advantage”
Norris has rebounded the disappointment of causing a collision with Piastri in Canada to win pole position the last time in Austria, rekinding his title challenge.
McLaren has made improvements to the MCL39 designed to increase Norris’s comfort in the cockpit after fighting during the early stadiums of the season with what he described as a “lack of feeling” in front of the car.
It remains suspicious that a strong performance in Austria does not guarantee success in Silverstone, but hopes that the combination of his update car and his home advantage will allow him to maintain his momentum.
Norris said: “I really felt a little more on the right track in Austria, but it is not a guarantee that I will have the same feelings here.
“Sometimes it can be very specific to the track, specific to the tarmac, at the temperature of the tires, whatever. I certainly felt better, I certainly felt more back in the rhythm.
“My qualification round in Q3 was one of the best I have ever done. I certainly had that feeling, a little more of the old me, but I am not the type to say that I am back.
“I think I must prove that with consistency and prove it as always. Austria just gives you more motivation to come here to try to achieve something similar to last weekend.
“You always want to feel like your home race gives you a little more advantage. So, I hope this is the case this weekend.”
